I don’t know what’s more outlandish: the nature of the crime (what a horrible way to die!) or the fact that the guy was once a freakin’ Power Ranger, for cryin’ out loud! Glad I’m the wrong age to ever have watched that show.
But I wonder how people who did watch it are reacting. (What color was he; does anyone know?)
I don’t know him, and I did watch the show when it first started (my favorite ranger was the green one). I have a pretty good memory for faces so I’m trying to find a pic of the guy to see if I recognize who he was.
I was googling and I found it really cool that the story came up on a Trucker forum, they had the couple’s license plate and car info posted (this is while they were still missing).
Looks like a white guy in the CNN picture.
(I know what you meant)
I did the same thing as others I guess, I looked up his name on the IMDB and then a Google search. His wife called him a “regular” on the show in this article: http://www.ocregister.com/ocr/2005/03/05/sections/local/local/article_431245.php
(free registration, use bugmenot.com, blah blah)
My bet is he was an extra more than once.
Poking around various sites, it appears he featured as a “nonspeaking extra” in two episodes of Power Rangers. One article I read (forget where it was, sorry) made it sound like this isn’t the only example of him, ah, creatively improving his life story.
I knew I should’ve checked the SDMB first. I wasted 20 minutes trying to find this guy on IMDb. Then I found the MSNBC article that described him as an extra.
Here’s a thought: At one point, the Blue Ranger was played by a really young kid. When the kid morphed into the Blue Ranger, first his costume appeared (including the helmet), and then he grew in size to match the other rangers. They were obviously using a stunt double who was much older than the kid, but because of the helmet you couldn’t see his face. The kid’s voice was dubbed in for the dialogue, so this guy would probably be considered a “nonspeaking extra.”
As I understand it, all of the costumed fighting footage from any Power Rangers series (and there have been something like 90 at this point it seems) is from the original Japanese shows.
Really? Because I remember an interview with one of the Pink Rangers who said that they had to learn tv karate which is more exaggerated than regular karate. Of course that may have been just for the scenes in which they fought in street clothes.
Co-incidentally I was looking at the trivia section for the various Power Rangers shows just the other day (because one of the twits from VH1’s show Kept was one of the many Red Rangers) and that’s where I got that factoid. Not that IMDB is 100% accurate or anything. But I would agree with you that the comment from the former Pink Ranger was probably referring to the plain clothes fight scenes.
