Does anyone know a way to change the default bullet choices in PowerPoint? I’m not talking about changing them on the Master.
When I go into Format, Bullets and Numbering, and click the Bulleted tab, I am presented with “None” and seven other character options for my bullet list. Is there a way to PERMANENTLY change one of those seven options to a different character, so that every time that dialogue box appears, I can quickly choose that option without having to manually select it via the Character tab?
Unfortunately, there isn’t, that’s been hard-coded into PP2K. In the PP97 days, you could open and modify the Master on the file “Blank Presentation.pot” and then that bullet would be used, but PP2K doesn’t use a blank.pot file anymore.
One thing I could suggest would be to turn on the Macro recorder, go through the steps to choose the bullets you want, then when finished, turn off the recorder and assign that macro to a new toolbar button. Then, instead of using Format | Bullets and Numbering, just click the toolbar button you created and the macro will automatically select the bulleted list placeholder and apply the proper bullet for you.
To get there, select the bulleted list placeholder, then goto Tools | Macros | Record New Macro… then do what you normally do through the menus. When finished, click the Stop button on the floating toolbar, then to run it again, goto Tools | Macros | Macros… and choose the one you just created. From that dialog, you can choose to store it in All Open Presentations, so it will be there no matter which file you’re using.
To assign a toolbar button to it, goto Tools | Customize | Commands tab, choose Macros from the category, and you’ll see it listed there. Select it, and drag it to a toolbar.
Unless PP2K is different from PP97 in this respect, this will not work: the toolbar button will only function for the document in which you recorded the macro; it will not work on any other documents.
Yes, it will work in all documents in PP2K. There’s an option in the Macros dialog to store it in “All Open Presentations”. Or, you can name it Auto_Open and it will load on startup.
