Powers Boothe RIP

Died in his sleep from natural causes.

If you have to go, and we all do, it’s not a bad way. Damn, I loved this guy! One of the best character actors of his generation. Not many left like him.

I was talking to somebody about the movie Southern Comfort just this week.

Sometimes he was great in great things. Lots of times he was just great. RIP Mr. Boothe.

Great, great actor. He was terrific in everything he did, but I especially liked his Philip Marlowe (in the 1980s HBO series).

Not me. I want to see it coming.

I wonder what “natural causes” means. A heart attack?

RIP Mr. Boothe.

I really enjoyed him in A Breed Apart and in Tombstone. He did bad so good.

He was a memorable Jim Jones. I’m not sure that’s something an actor would want to be remembered for though.

Underrated actor. And had a very distinct voice. He will be missed. :frowning:

Sadly apt, I’ve finally just watched “Deadwood”. The man played a slimy cocksucker psychopath effortlessly and I’d just got to the point where I’m thinking “is he never going to die from that gut-stabbing?” Sadly…now he has, but a fine character actor.

A fine actor. Loved him in Deadwood and the Philip Marlowe series. RIP.

Was always excellent in anything I saw him in. Anyone know of any roles where he played a nice character?

I first noticed him for his excellent performance in Southern Comfort, always figured he would get more high profile roles from then on, also thought his pairing with Keith Carradine in more movies would be a sure thing. Alas neither were to be. Rip.
NB. I know KC played Hickock in Deadwood, but I don’t think they ever had a scene together.

I was very disappointed to see this in my morning news scan. Godspeed, Mr. Boothe.

He was the Vice President in one of the seasons of 24 (Season 4?), where he played an ostensible antagonist (because Powers Boothe). But it turned out that his shadiness was due to having a mistress or something, and he was actually a good guy.

In Red Dawn he was a US pilot shot down by the Russians who acted as a mentor to the adolescents fighting the occupation.

When I picture Phillip Marlowe, I see Powers Boothe. Loved that show…

He played the father in the movie Emerald Forest, definitely a sympathetic role.

That’s the role I best remember him in (OK, so I was at a rather impressionable age when that one came out). I also liked his supporting role in Frailty.

Me, too. He did so many good things (his turn in Deadwood was middling, but memorable)… but I think the Jonestown drama was the first time he came to wide national attention, and it’s what I remember him for.

RIP.

He not only played Jim Jones, he also played John Walker. (Family of Spies). Another ordinarily named sociopath.

I was amazed he was only 68 now.I had assumed he was early 50s when Red Dawn came out back in the 80s.
