Pratchett's Night Watch (spoilers)

So. Bought the new book last weekend, read it in a few days and I have to say… I’m disappointed. I don’t think it’s up to Pterry’s usual standards.

There were some great moments - a young Vetinari! Nobby! But overall, it felt a bit self-indulgent. The plot wasn’t as strong as I’m used to and I felt Keel/Vimes’ death was a bit of an anti-climax. Also, I didn’t feel as involved with the characters as I usually do (I thought Ned Coates had a lot of potential that wasn’t fully developed).

Oh, and there just weren’t enough footnotes

Was I expecting too much? What did you think?

Well, you can check out mythread on this very topic.

Oddly, I found the few footnotes that were in the book distracting and annoying. I usually like 'em, but they just didn’t work for me in this book. Other than that, I thought it was pretty good.
