Just seems strange to me that they are so virulent in regards to the USA. Or is there something about the journalist I don’t know?

Just reading a few more articles I think the whole paper is a hoax.
There is no truth in The News, and there is no news in The Truth.
It’s Pravda.
The Russians tend to project their own prejudices, failings, and fears onto us. Like the US, they have a large and diverse populace, but whereas their different ethnic populations wanted to split off and leave after the fall of communism, a key feature of the US has been the relative unity of its many different peoples. Russia looks back at the economic troubles in its own history and expects something similar to happen to us.
I’ve read that paper as a Russian substitute for The Star or Sun for years. It’s full of bullshit. They were being really nice about America for a number of years, but for the last few years have been having a go at America under Bush. I don’t think they’ll just switch back to being nice because somebody else is in office.
Pravda was once a microphone for the leaders of the Soviet Communist party.
Now, with no more Soviet Union and no Communists with enough money to support the paper, they have turned into a sensationalist bit of fishwrap.
They’re no more trustworthy now than they were back then. Probably less, in fact, since in Soviet times you could at least predict their bias.
Odd. I got a malware warning on that website. On Safari no less.
Just to clarify the picture somewhat:
Based on what I understand, this is the successor to Pravda. (I still have copies of the newspaper from the week of the 1991 coup… wonder if they’re worth anything?)
I did as well.
They still have the two little Lenin medals in the masthead!
For some reason I’m getting all gooily nostalgic for my college Russian classes
Сколько лет, сколько зим, правда ли?
Did I mention that I’ve forgotten, um, pretty much everything else from my college Russian classes…? little help, please?
I should be merciless. I should cackle gleefully and continue to mess with your head.
But I’m feeling nice today.
I basically said “Been a while, huh?”
For those, unlike Flodnak and Olentzero, who didn’t get the joke, there was a saying that I have heard: “There is no pravda in Izvestia, and there is no izvestia in Pravda.” Izvestia is the other of the two soviet newspapers. Pravda being truth, and Izvestia being news. "There is no truth in News, and there is no news in Truth.
That said, I was a bit startled to see that article. Thanks for pointing out the actual modern Pravda. Which of them had the article about the guy predicting the US breaking into five countries by 2010?
Pravda.ru also has an alien fetish, with gems such as:
"U.S. scientists unveil NASA’s secrets about cities on the Moon and microbes on Mars "
“Mysterious dwarfish alien brutally murdered in Russia’s remote village”
“Russian fishermen catch squeaking alien and eat it”
