Pre Christmas 'Whatcha Reading Thread"

…the new Dean Koontz, and the book about the guy who reads the entire Encyclopedia Britannica, which a couple of people have mentioned in previous "whatcha readin’ " threads.

Working on Beautiful Shadow: The Life of Patricia Highsmith, which is turning out to be one of the finest literary bios I’ve ever read. For a break from Highsmith, I am really enjoying The Alice B. Toklas Cookbook, just taking it page by wonderful page. Next after Highsmith: Anne Sexton: A Biography. My wife also got me several coffeetable books of photographs of Elizabeth Taylor, and I dip into those in the evenings when she’s watching TV and I want some eye candy for myself.

Greg Iles’ “Footprints of God”. Sounds religious, but it’s really a semi-scifi mystery. Pretty good so far; My first with this author

Peter Nichols’ “Voyage to the North Star”. (I read 2-3 books at a time).

Something by Stuart Woods (on tape in the car). Pretty bad that I can’t remember the name. It’s just to pass the time while driving.

I saw him play in the garage band Rock Bottom Remainders, along with Dave Barry, Amy Tan, etc. He’s a pretty good musician too. If you ever have a chance to see them play, don’t miss it. It’s hysterically funny and tons of fun.

Looking for Jake by China Mieville. I don’t normally like his stuff because he tends to ramble, but these are some brilliant short stories. You’ll never look at an IKEA the same way again.
