Pre Poll Prep - What are your biggest specific SDMB annoyances?

Everything is semantics.

I’m pretty easygoing. I used to be peeved by sign offs, but I’ve learned to ignore them.

The use of “This.” - which is similar to “+1”. Maybe you could combine them.

The “Marianas Trench/one time/for 20 minutes” meme is seriously played out.

Threadshitting, although everyone hates that enough that putting it in a poll will be redundant.

I don’t mind including it, but what the hell does it mean?
mmm

Define “semantics”.

I swear I did not (consciously) know that you were the OP.

And ironically, ZipperJJ’s “ignored posts” annoyance was ignored on MMM’s list. :stuck_out_tongue:

Don’t worry. I’m sure someone else will mention it and then it will get added to the list.

Or worse yet, the inability to believe that someone disagrees with you only because they don’t understand you.

People who let meaningless or communal things on a message board get under their skin.

Stop this.

#1, it is an extremely cliquey place. So many here will only respond to only those in “the clique”, so much so that they will completely ignore a post made by one of us in the Great Unwashed until someone in the clique makes the same point 10 posts and 3 days later.

The Cecil worship would gag a goat. Look, he’s just a dude with a website and a research staff.

The long cryptic abbreviations are a pain in the ass.

The running “insider” jokes- Hi Opal, if he’s prepared, 1920s style death rays, etc. ad nauseum.

Let’s get real, some people here really have a lot more time to research their posts than others. Just because we aren’t able to come back in 10 minutes with a termpaper that refutes your point in excruciating detail doesn’t mean our opinions are invalid.

The phony civility, e.g. “regards” and other faux niceties.

Did I mention the clique? It’s hands down the biggest pisser about this place.

[Moderator Note]Just a gentle reminder that naming specific posters as annoyances will not be tolerated.[/Moderator Note]

Frequent polls about nothing.

It looks like you’ve missed my worst peeve - people not reading threads before responding.

Alright then. Two more for The List.

Seconded or whatever. This is my biggest peeve with this place. All we DO here is read posts and respond to them - if you’re not reading what other people are writing, you can piss right off (generic you, of course, not you, RoeCocoa).

This will probably annoy you, but I don’t think there’s a clique here. Of course, that probably just means that I’m not a member of it.

Other peeves of mine - Quoting an entire post to address one part of it. The Baby Jesus loves people who edit posts they quote.

Quoting the entire OP when you’re the second poster. It’s still on the screen! We can see it!

Opal once made the statement that a true list should have at least 3 items, otherwise it’s not really a list.
Someone jumped on it and made a list like:

[ul]
[li]Item1[/li][li]Item2[/li][li]“Hi Opal!”[/li][/ul]

The joke being that it was only 2 true items but the poster was humoring Opal.
It was funny for about a day. It’s been going on for years.

And making a list like:

[ul]
[li]Item1[/li][li]Item2[/li][li]“Hi Opal!”[/li][li]Item3[/li][li]Item4[/li][/ul]
doesn’t even make sense in this context yet people still do it.

I’ll have to see if Ican dig out the 20 minute thread…

Quoting the ENTIRE OP in your response.

I noticed this happens pretty frequently now - sometimes more than once in a single thread. Since I can only read the Dope on my phone the sheer bulkiness this adds to a thread gets annoying after a while. Just sayin’…
If you are making a point that you want to back up with part of the OP - I can dig it. But a lot of times I see posters quote the whole OP(or sometimes a lengthy reply) then say “I agree with part of the OP but…” Why not only quote the relevant part?

I still love this place anyway.

For the record I DID read the whole thread but I type too slow. Sorry for the repeat.

It predates my use of this board, but apparently there was some reference to the visit to the bottom of the Marianas Trench in the Pacific in 1960, once, for 20 minutes, that somehow took on a life of its own on the SDMB. It’s much like “1920’s-style death ray” in that way.

Also, can we include “Og” in the poll?

Quality control. Seems like people often get a pass on saying things that are unequivocally factually incorrect, as long as they’re saying it in accordance with the weight of popular opposition du jour.

Or in plainer words: if the SDMB generally hates something, you can pull assertions out of your ass in opposition to that thing, and they’ll stand unchallenged for far longer than they ought.

I will not tell the slipper joke lest I explode from the hypocrisy of it all. I am surprised that there’s people here who haven’t heard it. But, yeah - it’s just like the brown and sticky joke.

The marinara’s trench seems to have died a graceful death on it’s own, so I don’t’ think it’s really an annoyance. The Rio meme seems to have gracefully passed on just like the 1920’s style death ray.

Didn’t we used to have a sticky around here that went through all of this stuff?
