Pre-teen friendly improv shows

I’ll be in Chicago 4/14 with my girlfriend and her 12 year old daughter. I’d like to take them to see a good improv show but am aware that these generally don’t allow kids her age. Does anyone know of any good improv-style shows that we could attend? Any thoughts on other age-appropriate live theater going on that weekend is much appreciated!

12 is a tough one.

The youngest I went was at ~15 to Too Much Light. It would depend a lot on the 12-year-old. They don’t have an age limit, but do warn parents of kids under 14 that content may be inappropriate.

I don’t remember seeing anything incredibly inappropriate when I went, but it’s definitely a bit on the R-rated side. I’d say if the parent would be uncomfortable with the kid watching Bridesmaids, TML would be too risque.

There’s young adult improv around, but I’m not aware of anything that’s really “performance” and not “workshop.”

Thanks typoink! I figured it might be a tough ask. Her daughter loves any live performance event and I think would get a kick out of improv. Too Much Light sounds like it might slightly too much. I’m checking out the Reader listings and recommendations for a good small-theater show as a backup.

ComedySportz has a no-swearing/dirty stuff policy with their shows and they’re a great time for kids her age (as well as for adults.)

Thanks Bob Ducca! ComedySportz it is then!

We ended up going to the 6PM Saturday ComedySportz show and it was great. There were lots of kids there and they kept it clean for that show. Thanks again for the info!

Fantastic! So glad you had a great time.
