What I hope: Cohen, Manafort et.al have actually been able to provide Mueller with evidence of something juicy.
What I think is realistic: The Mueller report will say that individuals in the disorganized collection of self-serving misfits that is and was the Donald Trump campaign did attempt to establish and use connections with Russia to influence the 2016 election, but they didn’t manage to accomplish anything illegal. It will also say some or all of this was known and condoned by Donald Trump and that he and others have been lying their asses off trying to cover it up and down play it, mainly to the press, but in some cases to the FBI. A couple more people will, like Manafort, Gates, Cohen etc. end up on trial for lies to the FBI and/or other criminal acts discovered during the investigation. Trump and his family will not initially be among those people.
Trump and the Republicans will say that none of Trump’s lies were under oath and/or to the FBI, that the case for collusion was always obviously nonsense and that therefore lying to the American people was a rational strategy. So no way to succeed if he’s impeached. The Democrats will not be unified in the desire to impeach, and hopefully those in favor will see the damage in trying and failing to get it passed in the house.
Once he’s out of the house, hopefully in 2020, New York will take him down for tax evasion, fraud, etc.
What I hope: at 12:01 pm 1/20/21, Joe Biden takes his hand off the Bible after being sworn in, and as the band strikes up Hail to the Chief, he turns to Mueller and says “Book him, Bobbo”. Don Sr. is handcuffed on the Capitol steps (or wherever he happens to be, the piece of shit would probably skip the inauguration) and taken into custody.
What I expect: Sometime in the next month, Don Jr, Ivanka, and Kushner get indicted. Mueller gives the report to Whitaker, who tosses it in the shredder without reading it, declares it fake news and fires Mueller on the spot. In January, Speaker Pelosi subpoenas the report and brings in Mueller to testify in open session, whereby the crimes of this wretched administration are brought to light. The report shows Donald as the being a Russian asset who has leaked sensitive intelligence to Putin, personally directed the hack of Hillary’s emails and engaged in money laundering and racketeering for decades. The House votes to impeach, all Republicans in the Senate vote not guilty (though Susan Collins will make a big show about pretending to waver), and the creep gets to finish his term. Fox News brings up Obama wearing a tan suit. Joe Biden defeats him in the election and just before Inauguration, Donald flies to Russia and seeks asylum.
What I expect: Trump gets a general pardon like Nixon got — for any crimes he has committed, or may have committed, or taken part in — maybe from himself.
What I hope: uh, “hope” isn’t really on the table; I almost can’t not picture him going the ‘pardon’ route. I mean, why wouldn’t he?
My bold. I like this a lot. Just one quibble: using “Donald” and “intelligence” in the same sentence. No BEEP for you this time, but watch it.
I love this. When thump gets off the plane in Russia, he is surrounded by guards who have been told not to let him into the country. Thump tries to get Putin on his cell, but Don’s number has been blocked. The guards escort thump to the terminal, where he is forced to live for the next few months, searching for a country that will take him. The world watches for a while, but soon the newsworthiness fades and he is forgotten. The end.
Because it looks quite a bit like Mueller has hard evidence that Trump was in Russia’s pocket. The stuff about Trump Tower Moscow that has gone public this week is hard evidence.
A damning report implicating Trump for the crime of bringing on unsavory and corruptible characters willing to lie about things, but no criminal conspiracy involving influencing the election between his campaign and Russia.
Well, does he actually believe that Hillary got three to five million “illegal” votes? Jury is still out on how stupid he really is, he’d lose at Jeopardy to a horse and a duck. And would a KGB golem trust a blabbermouth in a secret conspiracy?
No trouble believing he had nothing to do with the planning. Or the nuts and bolts of the act itself. But afterwards? He still doesn’t believe it happened? In fact, firmly believes it didn’t? I suppose if the vast majority of the country came to believe that he is innocent because he’s too dumb to make his own oatmeal…he’d throw a victory parade.
I was just wondering this same thing. What if the Mueller report is issued with damning evidence and all the Repub’s just say “meh we don’t believe it”?
The government just carries on as normal? Everyone else in the report gets indicted except the president? I can’t imagine the GOP flipping at this point regardless of evidence, but I also can’t imagine going on with a known criminal as president.
if there is a lot of evidence of crime then the house almost certainly would vote to impeach. But as I said before who are the 20 GOP senators who will vote to remove Trump?
Might be, might not. IMO, there will have to be more than Cohen testifying against him, because Cohen’s credibility is just totally shot. I think it would take some really damning written communication from Don Jr. that we don’t know about yet, or multiple more witnesses, to really endanger him. With what we know now, I think Don Jr. still has wiggle room to weasel out of anything.
Not interested in jail. Want the truth, whole truth and nothing less. There is no legal revenge to even out what he stole from us. Public humiliation and disdain will do just fine, so long as its laid on good and thick.
Except if there are documents, emails, texts, audio/video tape recordings and testimony of other witnesses to corroborate what the liar is saying. You think Mueller takes anyone at their word?
This is how criminal justice is done. Prosecutors use people who initially lie to them all the time as witnesses.
