We had this discoussion several weeks ago, on July 3-4, in the “How Trump can lose and stay on” thread, starting with this post:
In an effort to get the thread back on track…
I assume most of us have seen that DeJoy is now backtracking and saying he will halt the planned changes.
Policies that were begun under Mr DeJoy included removing mail boxes, cancelling delivery runs and closing down sorting centres.
In a sharp reversal, Mr DeJoy has now said that post office hours would not be cut, and post boxes and sorting machines would stop being removed.
Mr DeJoy, a former Republican donor, also said overtime pay would continue to be approved to ensure deliveries arrive on time.
Do we buy this? And it doesn’t seem this means they will return the mailboxes or sorting machines that have been removed. Did the GOP blink or do they think they’ve made enough changes to accomplish what they were trying to accomplish?
One item, in your laundry list above, is different from all the others: “legislative actions.” Putting that possibility aside, if, next November, ABC, CBS, and NBC project Trump having beaten Biden, and I turn around and tell my Trumpy relatives that Donald stole the election, they are going to call me a sore loser. And, for once, they would be correct.
The lawsuits you are referring to are part of our system. That’s not stealing – it’s playing by the rules. As for the rest, no election, in a large federal republic, is perfect, and flaws you list will be too scattered to be the main reason why Trump won.
I would allow that Trump stole it, by means you suggest, if the international observers say the election was generally unfree or unfair. But, if Trump wins at the ballot box, I expect the international experts to say election flaws were worse than in the past, but still small and scattered.
Lawsuits by states attorneys general are proceeding nevertheless: States turn to courts over postal changes - POLITICO
Good, they should. This crap has to be blocked in every way possible.
On the contrary, they won’t be flaws. They will be a strategy, and they will be very widespread.
Trump will use force. Federal agents and troops will be sent to Democratic polling places to quell “riots.” In battleground states controlled by Republicans, those polling places will be few and far in between, will not have enough voting machines, and voters will be disenfranchised in the thousands.
It is obvious Trump will stop at nothing. He will cheat any way he can, and that includes military force. Anyone who thinks he will exercise any restraint is wildly ignorant.
The Trump campaign sues New Jersey after its decision to mail ballots in November election. How DARE the Garden State do something that might actually increase turnout and improve voter safety in the midst of a pandemic!: Trump campaign sues New Jersey after its decision to mail ballots in November election
Nope.
I don’t think so. To explain it from Trump’s point of view, he plans to prevent rigged results from toppling him, rather than prevent the rigging.
In 75 days we will know if you are right about the troops.
My rationale is this; why wouldn’t he?
Would it helps his chances? Yes.
Can he do it? Yes.
So he’ll do it.
Are we still talking about Postal Service shutdown? Today I just spotted this, from Portland (Maine) Press Herald: Apparently, time is of the essence when delivering baby chicks by mail.

Cross-posting a link to a closely related thread:
There has to be more than one way to disrupt the postal service. Outright sabotage was too obvious so they’ve given up on that (although they could always resume later) but that does not mean the fight is over. Now they just have to figure out other ways to bring a giant bureaucracy with a million moving parts to a halt. I’m sure there is other stuff Trump’s cronies can mess up that will amount to the same effect as physically removing mailboxes.
Pence would probably screw up the secret plan and announced that the new President of the United States is Marisa Tomei.
This is them trying to be subtle.
M-80s in mail boxes could become a thing too. They wouldn’t even have to destroy that many ballots if the idea is merely to instill doubt.
