Prediction: Romney landslide win

Maybe a measured response against people who’ve shown a propensity to respond to perceived insults with violence is good global leadership.

Being angry at the man who insults half this country while trying to claim the right to lead is justified.

A poll reported on CNN found that, among Americans who followed the Libya story closely, more approved of Obama’s response than Romney’s.

Ah, so maybe Romney should incite his supporters to violence so that Obama will be more measured in his criticism.

Well, hey, I’m sure you believe the ends justify the means.

Romney’s camp must be so cranky these days having to spin so hard.

Yeah, anybody with a rational brain can see the timing of Romney’s criticism couldn’t be more crass.

There was another factor in the 1980 election. John Anderson’s independent bid. In the end he probably sucked away more voters from Carter than Reagan. A few of the events that centered around Anderson made Carter look bad and Reagan look better.

I have seen the facebook posts and emails from a close tea party relative, IMHO **adaher **is giving only hints of the very poisonous environment that is driving many on the right now (Heck, even FOX news is suspect in that world).

Maybe **adaher **is not aware of the most egregious examples, but right now several in the Republican camp are going beyond the pale regarding incitements to violence towards the current administration. Among the worst are a continuum of trashy information that not even FOX deals with, but that is sent and consumed by many Republicans right now, they are reporting looney items like an ongoing “white holocaust” perpetrated by the current administration or related to that, that liberals (and all democrats for that matter) are fascists. (I grant it that it was fun to point at my relative that by those standards Einstein, one of the most famous liberal/progressives from the past, should had remained in Germany to help the fascists)

I would say that alienating people or driving them to violence seems to be ok for several republicans in the attempt to win the election.

Here’s my prediction:

Romney loses the popular vote, and would lose the EC if not for shameless vote-counting fraud in at least one state, but thanks to rabid GOP secretaries of state, he wins. Obama doesn’t challenge the result, preferring to go back to private life and let the GOP run the country into the ground.

The TEA Party/GOP retake both houses of Congress, the HoR in a landslide, because the Democrats JUST DON’T CARE.

And the world burns.

I gave up on volunteering for local Democrats when I realized I was so unshakeably pessimistic that I might do more harm than good.

“The best lack conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.”

Too bad I don’t believe in the Second Coming.

Interesting that you should use the word “insular”. So many of my conservative friends get their news exclusively from FOX, AM radio, and conservative websites–it’s remarkable how skewed their worldview can be. If the only people you converse with are like-mined conservatives, it is easy to conclude that the “real world” agrees with you–what are polls, after all? The minute liberal elite surely makes those up, don’t they?

Back in 2004, I shared a place with a Chinese graduate student. One day he mentioned that John Kerry MUST be poised to win a landslide; literally no one he knew had any kind things to say about George Bush, Jr. I explained how virtually all of his peer group–researchers at a major university–were essentially the Democratic base and not representative of the whole US.

Like the man said, reality has a well-known liberal bias. Truthiness, on the other hand…

You’re also not required to post. It sounds like you’re saying “I chose to post something that I knew would provoke a strong negative response, even though I had no intention of actually debating it.” In my opinion, this is not adding value to the message board; this is just annoying people and wasting their time. You might say, “they didn’t have to read it”, but posters may have read, and replied, on the assumption that you actually had an argument other than “this is my opinion that I have no intention of defending.”

In contrast, we have quite a few posters who actually try to make an argument that goes against the majority opinion and support it with facts, and then respond to disagreement with actual debate. This adds a great deal of value to the board.

Just when one thinks the OP premise can’t get any more absurd, it does, with Mitt caught on Candid Camera declaring half the voters to be worthless moochers and self-pityingly saying how much easier life would be if her were Latino.

(No, Mitt, what would really make (un)life easier would be if you were a vampire, and thereby immune to being recorded.)

It’s almost as if you had this thread saved for future reference.

That would just be very petty and small of me.

Not saying it isn’t true…

Oh, yeah. I’m a happy camper.

Oh, Klaatu, where aaaaaaare you…?
