You can’t spell “Patriot” without “riot”!
I can imagine the pack of dumbfucks of which his party would consist. Watching their conventions would be entertaining.
Yup, you’re completely correct, that’s exactly what I intended, just a result of drive by postings in cruise mode
I really, really want this new party to get started. That way you’d end up with a party for liberals, a party for conservatives and a party for racist assholes.
It’s 12:03. Have they served the first subpoena yet?
Trump still has some assets: his connection with 74 million voters most of whom still support him and the threat of running third party which would destroy the Republicans. The latter will allow him to cut some kind of deal with the GOP where they offer him political protection and support for his business interests in return for him not running again either inside or outside the GOP. If the Republican party has his back, that may deter Democratic prosecutors from going after him too aggressively.
As for business, while his existing interests are probably in serious trouble he may be able to create new ones especially in media which bring in enough new money in to pay off his creditors. He does not need to be actively running them, just act as a mega-promoter and use his unparalleled connection with tens of millions of supporters.
So overall I think Trump will survive though he undoubtedly faces some tough legal and business challenges.
There’s zero chance that Trump would abide by any such deal.
He will abide by the deal if he still needs the GOP which he will because his legal and business problems won’t be gone by 2024. And any Trump media company will also require some level of GOP support to really succeed.
Ultimately both Trump and the GOP need each other and my guess is they will work out some kind of arrangement.
I’m not so sure this is true. I’d say “many of whom,” but not “most.” That isn’t only because of the 1/6 riots but because, after weeks of sequestering without Twitter or media appearances, months of dwindling power, and the most pathetic send-off in the history of the presidency, he’s lost the allure, charisma, and energy necessary to maintain the fanatical loyalty he once enjoyed. That doesn’t mean there won’t be an alt-right third party or that most Trump voters have turned on him; simply that he’s becoming irrelevant to many of them. There’s little attraction to a has-been.
I wonder, too, if his constant whining about election fraud is starting to take a toll as well. I’m sure it’s keeping the hard-core fans in line but after a while it becomes tiresome and some prominent conservatives have come out against the narrative. Trump looks like such a sore loser (loser!) and nobody likes a sore loser.
I had to run an errand and turned on “The Patriot” on the satellite radio to see how they were all feeling about this great day. The one caller I heard was going on about how he didn’t think the vote count was accurate, hopes Trump runs again next time, but “what’s going to stop the Democrats from just doing this to us again in 2024?” So, I can confirm that some of the hard core fans haven’t left the nest.
I don’t know what happens with Trump. Typically presidents retire. Trump isn’t going to be Jimmy Carter and find another cause.
The talk was that he was going to resume his rallies with an eye on 2024. As pointed out above, even if you believe he was cheated, it worked. He’s out of office. The rallies are going to be viewed as preludes to riots now, they won’t play the same. And again, apparently Trump is powerless to keep himself from being cheated out of the presidency. He may have talked himself into a corner.
Yeah he has lost some support and may lose more but the hard core of his base is still probably in the tens of millions and gives him a potent bargaining chip. The GOP can’t afford to lose those votes.
Millions more voted against him. He lost. I think they can afford it. Where else are these people going to go? It’s the same deal with the progressives on the other side. Two party system. Throw a hissy fit, and the guy you hate worse wins.
For what it’s worth, Lindsey Graham has said the Republicans can’t take back the senate without Trump. I assume that means he thinks that Trump will be involved somehow.
I have always pushed back on the kompromat theories regarding Trump and other Republicans but if you pushed me just a little I might believe them about Graham. Even now he’s a toady.
After what happened in the Georgia senate runoffs, how can Graham even think this is a good idea? Better to dump Trump quickly and just not ever speak about him again would be better I think.
But whatever. If Graham wants to continue to tie himself and his party to Loser Donnie Who Lost The Senate, who am I to argue?
Politico article, Michael Kruse interviewing four of the five biographers of trump who wrote their books before trump got elected (the fifth is deceased).
Well worth a read. They discuss what could be left for trump now that his media platforms have been removed, cutting him off from his base (never was a group so well-named), he will be besieged with lawsuits, his “brand” is toxic, and his debts will get called. Their consensus is that trump is a sociopath with an absolute need for attention and importance, which is his only bulwark against monumental self-loathing. They point out that all his ‘successes’ were orchestrated and managed by others, for their own reasons. He is lazy and disorganized, and cannot plan; the only thing that is real to him is his current need that minute. They did not envision him coming back from this. One said suicide was always a final solution for someone like trump.
I read the suggestion that Congress could try to pass a law saying that he’s ineligible to run again under section three of the Fourteenth Amendment. (" No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may, by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.")
Although honestly, I doubt that would be necessary. I think his moment has come and gone. Plus I think his cognitive decline is going accelerate.
It’s tempting to pretend the man no longer exists or even matters, but…
PALM BEACH, Fla. — Former president Donald Trump threw himself back into politics this weekend by publicly endorsing a devoted and divisive acolyte in Arizona who has embraced his false election conspiracy theories and entertained the creation of a new “MAGA Party.”
In a recorded phone call, Trump offered his “complete and total endorsement” for another term for Arizona state party chairwoman Kelli Ward, a lightning rod who has sparred with the state’s Republican governor, been condemned by the business community and overseen a recent flight in party registrations. She narrowly won reelection, by a margin of 51.5 percent to 48.5 percent, marking Trump’s first victory in a promised battle to maintain political relevance and influence after losing the 2020 election.
In recent weeks, Trump has entertained the idea of creating a third party, called the Patriot Party, and instructed his aides to prepare election challenges to lawmakers who crossed him in the final weeks in office, including Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R), Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Rep. Tom Rice (R-S.C.), according to people familiar with the plans.
Multiple people in Trump’s orbit, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations, say Trump has told people that the third-party threat gives him leverage to prevent Republican senators from voting to convict him during the Senate impeachment trial. Trump advisers also say they plan to recruit opposing primary candidates and commission polling next week in districts of targeted lawmakers. Trump has more than $70 million in campaign cash banked to fund his political efforts, these people say.
The prospect of a divisive battle threatens to widen a split in the Republican Party and has alarmed leaders in Washington, who have been pleading publicly to avoid any new rounds of internecine retribution.
…
My bold. This seems to be his immediate reason.
I don’t know about y’all but I could get behind some Republican internecine retribution.
With reference to the OP:
Trump will be exposed for all of his crimes. That will encourage his supporters.
Trump will be convicted by the Senate, further stimulating base support.
Trump will form the MAGA (not Patriot) party
Trump will be the MAGA Party candidate in 2024
Trump will again claim victory and will broadly challenge the election “legally”, backed by militant violence
If that sounds absurd - reflect on 5 years just passed
