Pregnant nomad scavenges road kill

“Yes, she eats animals killed by cars, but extreme forager Alison Brierley says her lifestyle is healthy—and good for the planet.”

Knowing how the Daily Mail is, I am skeptical about if this woman’s story is exaggerated, but I can see how this makes sense (even though there is no way I would do it myself, and not just because I’m a vegetarian). They probably save a lot of money eating this way, and it would just go to waste otherwise.

“Squirrel testicle earrings for a new bride.” Ugh.

They just featured people eating road kill on Discoverys Hairy Bikers show. Don’t let the name fool you. Hairy Bikers are two guys (one a French trained chef) that travel and sample regional food.

The road kill hunters go out early before the meat goes bad. They get out there at dawn and get game killed the night before.

Any hunter knows ruptured intestines ruin meat. You have to be very careful field dressing it and not puncture the guts with your knife. Road kill is no different. If the impact from the car ruptured the intestines then I wouldn’t eat it.

That Fench chef guy on Hairy Bikers cooked some road kill and it looked pretty good.

BBC version of Hairy Bikers.

Cooking Road Kill. Yummy.

Just noticed I posted the same video. Sorry.

Couldn’t find a clip of the History channels Hairy Bikers road kill.

As long as she’s getting it fresh I don’t see the problem with this.

I can’t tell you the number of dead deer that go to waste in my neighborhood. I hate to see all that fresh meat go to waste. Unfortunately, it is illegal here to pick up any deer that has been hit by cars. Possum, squirrel, rabbit, cat, dog, etc is fine to pick up, but not deer.

Same in Florida, but people do it if they can. It’s an odd sort of world these days. Most people see a dead deer on the side of the road and think, “Oh God, somebody needs to clean that up”, yet if hungry people take it for food, they want them jailed.

However, if you hit a deer and total your car, (it has happened twice to someone I know), you are allowed to take/eat the deer. Or you can let the tow truck driver have it.

I’ve gotten several deer this way. Once from my own vehicle, a few other times freshly killed or mortally wounded by someone else. The meat was great, and my dog appreciated the scraps.

Hard to understand why someone WOULDN’T want 50 lbs of fresh, organic, free range meat that would otherwise go to waste.

I’m not sure exactly what the local laws are, but (1) it’s not the sort of thing that can be enforced and (2) I have no problem exercising civil disobedience with a law that is as foolish as some of those mentioned.

According to my wife, my in-laws came upon a road-killed deer once. I don’t know what they did with the meat, but they did drink the blood. This was not long after they’d come to America.

Did they gain it’s power?!?!
…the power to get hit by cars?
