That’s what I’ve been trying to figure out. What do they think will happen in Obama’s second term that he couldn’t have done in his first?

Well, Obama is actually a Stalinist and prior to his election America was a pre-industrialised country. He’s doing things which may look positive to the uninitiated eye (permitting Walker’s venerable efforts to dismantle unions, passing free trade laws, appropriating money from the petty-bourgeois into the hands of the industrialists), when one looks closer it is merely an attempt to industrialise America. As with Stalin, such an attempt may get sidetracked by war (if he’s rational, he’ll strike first against Iran), but it’s clear given the training camps he attended in Indonesia with his real father that he’ll pursue revolutionary policies.

I do wonder just how many of these people are really going to do this kind of prepare-for-the-Obamapocalypse stuff, and end up with screwed up lives like the people who sell all their property because they believe some preacher who tells them the end of the world is happening on X date.

The guy was pretty obviously just a troll, but I’d say that there are as many people who think this way as there were left wing loonies who actually moved to a different country when Bush won his second term. Which is to say, it’s a non-zero number, but it’s pretty low…

Today, I instructed my wife to prepare for post Obama election by doing the following:

1. Close out our bank accounts, checking accounts, savings account.

2. Eliminate and exist from all medical service programs, insurance, and destroy all medical records and ID numbers.

3. Destroy and toss all cell phones.

4. Take out and smash all black boxes in our vehicles. Will put on the road my 69 mustaang.

5. Cut up all credit cards and call to stop all transactions.

6. Call and stop propane gas shipments, will now burn firewood. Already have more than 500 cord stacked as a backup.

7. Buy only the bare necessaities and pay all bills with a money order.

8. Plan all travel areas, use back roads to avoid TSA agents.

9. Do not use landline telephone only in an emergency.

10. Call and turn off Direct TV.

11. End all computer web services.

12. Build a gate at the end of our driveway and keep it locked. Inform all friends and relatives to call first prior to a visit so the gate can be unlocked.

13. Get involved more heavily with local Tea Party to establish a third party, no more money to the GOP under any circumstance!

The list may be updated to include other more secret actions that the government need not know about here!

This guy needs to be careful. Doing all those things is EXACTLY what will get him on the Government Watch List! You don’t think they’re not tracking to see who cancels their satelite, phone, and credit cards in the same week, do you? Of course they are! He needs to be a bit craftier if he truly wants to be free. Hit two out of three too quickly, and the drones start doing their recon. Get all three…men in black are asking why you don’t like watching tv anymore.

Sorry if this has already been addressed, not got to the end of the thread as yet, but in the interest of fighting ignorance (mine), can someone explain why having a bank account costs anything?? My bank paid me £100 to open my current account with them, and pays me interest on my money each month. Why would anyone PAY to have an account, when banks are falling over themselves to win your business? Confused.

Banks in the US USE to give away free accounts but that is not the case nowadays unless you qualify one of a few ways…
Have direct deposit.
Have a mortgage with them.
Have more money than God.

Most stopped giving away free accounts about 3/4 years ago.

You have no fucking idea what you’re talking about. Dedicated check cashing businesses charge around 2%. Walmart will cash checks up to $1000 for $3. Up to $5000 for $6.

I don’t want to make your extremely wealthy head explode, but I’d like you to consider the fact that there exist people in this country who are too poor to afford a checking account. People who do better financially by paying Walmart $3 every week or two than they would by opening a bank account. Some of them even have jobs and pay bills. And they aren’t all morons.

Yep. This isn’t uncommon for the working poor or blue collar working class. My first job in high school was at a garage and we got weekly paychecks. A bunch of coworkers would just go down to the party store* a couple blocks down and cash their checks there. After a few checks cleared fine and you were known, they’d cash your check and take only a couple bucks + the change.

• I think this is a fairly regional term. It’s basically a liquor store; it sells smokes, beer/wine/liquor, lotto, snacks and sometimes magazines.
