President Bush Rumor (fairly weak)

So I hear from a friend of a friend (isn’t that always how it starts?) that Bush was on Letterman recently. Between segments, but while cameras were still rolling, he flags down a passing intern and uses her skirt to clean his glasses. He claims that this footage has since aired on Real TV type shows.

I can’t find anything on Google about it, though, and Snopes doesn’t seem to have anything. Also, Letterman’s site indicates that Bush has not been a guest in some time.

Has anyone seen this clip? I suppose it may have happened on another late-night show, but a cursory Google search still isn’t finding anything.

Since when does President Bush wear glasses?

Yes, it happened. As a staged joke, in the run-up prior to the 2000 election.

Old news.

Do have a cite that it was staged? It did indeed happen but not on the air as far as I know which kind of makes it difficult for it to have been a staged joke.

This link has a still from the incident and suggests that a vice president of CBS Late Night Programming (someone you would assume would be in the know) thought it was real and not staged.

Here’s a picture.

Evidently rarely in public, but he does use a pair. Coincidentally, the print edition of today’s Independent has an old photo of him being briefed by Tenet in the Oval Office prior to the Iraq War in which he’s also wearing glasses.

Where are the woman’s legs? The still is so blurry it looks like she only exists as a sweater.

Well, it was funnier that “It means when it comes time to sew up your chest cavity, we use stitches as opposed to opening it up,” anyway.

Did anyone actually boo him when he polished his glasses?

I’ve seen Dave show the clip many times.

It was during a commercial break (of course, the cameras are still running) and while the producer was leaning over talking to Dave, almost with her back to GWB, he surreptitiously uses the hem of her sweater to quickly clean his glasses.

And by surreptitiously, I mean in front of three hundred studio audience members and five video cameras. This, from a man who already got caught by video cameras ‘surreptitiously’ pointing out to Cheney a news reporter whom he then calls an asshole. (And Cheney replied, “Big time.”)

Peace.

‘Big time’ all right.

Weird.

I am opposed to a great many of the policies Bush has enacted since he has been in office. But he’s wearing a suit for heaven’s sake. When you’re wearing a suit and don’t happen to have a handkerchief or tissue it’s really hard to clean your own glasses. I would imagine he probably mouthed something under his breath like, “Do you mind if I . . . ?”. I would imagine she probably didn’t give a damn.

On the other hand I think Clinton would have been smeared in the media for anything similar. In either case I think it is wrong to make a big deal out of. It’s not as if cleaning his glasses off has anything to do with public policy.

Which probably accounts for the video clip of George Bush horking up a big snot ball to spit on the White House lawn as he boarded a helicopter.

That`s it. This was the final straw. I am soooo not voting for him in 2004!!

I have yet to find any article of clothing better for cleaning glasses than the back of a necktie. Certainly, it works much better than a sweater.

I’ve seen pictures of Bush wearing glasses when sitting at a desk.
What does it matter?
How many people over 50 don’t use some kinda magnification?
I was going to say they’re reading glasses, but that’s not likely.
He could take lessons from Ol’ Bill on how to impress an intern.
Why is your handle a girl’s name?
I hope this isn’t GQ.
