Geo W. Bush looking through Binoculars

I’ve searched Snopes, but couldn’t find anything. I’ve looked at the picture to see if they’re digital bonoculars (don’t need endcaps) but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

So does anybody know the story behind the picture of George W. Bush looking through binoculars with the lens caps on? {link deleted. See below}

So even if it is real, no one ever looked into a camera or binos quickly and then realized the cover was on a second or two later?

With the media/press around, and taking pictures constantly, it is likely that any quick mistake can be frozen in time.

It is very possible it’s real and the pic was taken just as he started to realize something was wrong.

That’s funny. This picture has been thrown out as an example that Clinton wasn’t too smart.

When the President is handed equipment it should be ready for him to use. Neither President is stupid for assuming that the binoculars have the lens caps removed. It is the fault of whomever handed the President the binoculars that he looks like an ass. That person probably no longer has a job.

I am sure that the pictures were taken in that minute before you realize why you can’t see through the damn things.

Enright, I didn’t stay at that link for long, so maybe I’m wrong, but I think that probably violates the “two clicks” rule, or however many it is. I don’t know if that would be considered an appropriate link. Upon first glance it looked shady, and I didn’t stick around, if I’m wrong, then I apologize.

Dignan… and everybody else. That didnt’ work out like planned, and you’re right, it’s probably not an appropriate link.

Try this instead.

Mods… if you’d kill that link, I’d appreciate it.

First of all, that’s supposed to be “didn’t” in my previous post.

Philster,
I agree with what you’re saying, but The president has people who are there for just that reason. Their job is to make sure that the president doesn’t make himself look foolish. There was a picture of the president holding a book upside down. It turned out to be a hoax. Most thinks like this are hoaxes, and I just wanted to know if anyone knew the story behind this particular pic.

That photo was taken in February 20, 2002 while Bush was in South Korea. He stopped at the DMZ to visit soldiers and have a look at the North Korea. Here’s a CNN news article about the trip:Bush peers into ‘evil’ North Korea. In the accompanying photo, you can clearly see that the lens covers have been removed. The explanation is simple. Bush looked through the binoculars, realized the caps were still on, and took them off.

Thanks, evilhanz. As a republican, and a Bush supporter, I wanted to prepare for when my very liberal mother-in-law sends me the pic with some snooty remark attached. Just like she did with the doctored pic of GW holding the childs book upside down. I was able to shut her down with a Snopes reference.

Give the man a break. He could have had the big lens against his eyes.

You really need help.
