You question the existence of fireplaces in Australia? Where do you live? Darwin?
You would.
I play with my plants, which usually involves asking twickster for advice.
I pet my cats.
I open my shades and let the sunlight in through the prisms in my window.
I write.
I take the worlds hottest bubble bath, in vanilla.
I cross stitch lovely things.
I crochet.
Tack up my horse and go for a ride? I guess that’s about it. Sometimes I soak in the tub with a book, but no bubbles (ick). I’m the antithesis of feminine.

Antigen , I’m curious…how do you take your Earl Grey? With just milk and no sugar? No milk or sugar?? What is it you object to…the honey or the cream? Actually I use half and half and I’ll use whole milk if I have to. I don’t always use honey. Sometimes I use raw sugar…but I think it’s the best drink on earth. To each her own I suppose
I drink it black, because it has such a beautiful flavor and aroma that I normally can’t stand to alter it with milk or sugar. Sometimes if it’s a cheap Earl Grey, I’ll add a little honey.
But cream in tea just freaks me out. It makes it too creamy. Milk, I can understand (although not necessarily approve of), but cream’s just, well, not for me. At least you’re drinking the right tea, though, that’s a start. Have you ever tried it black? Let it cool a little and sip it slowly. Mmmmm.
I like to get a massage, or buy a completely impractical pair of shoes.
French braid my hair.
Groom my horse. Braid his mane and tail (practicing for showing him).
Drink a Cosmopolitan.
Buy a copy of Vogue.
Wearing my stompy boots (aka shitkickers, motorcycle boots, or harness boots) to work.
The perfect cup of coffee in the morning, a cup of good quality drip adulterated with heavy cream and a buttload of sugar. Mmm-mmm-mmm!
Finding pictures and/or reviews of a new and shiny geektoy such as a new PDA or software. This is to me as catnip is to a particularly susceptible cat.
Burying my nose in my cats’ fur while hugging them tightly. (And no, I don’t call them George.)
It makes us better mommies and wives, don’t ya think?
The following “pretty things” make me happy:
–buying a new, fabulous pair of shoes
–pedicures and manicures
–putting on a new fragrance for the first time
–spending an hour or more on my makeup (even if I don’t end up wearing a lot)
–slipping under freshly washed sheets after a shower with nothing on
–when my hair turns out just the way I like it and I have somewhere to go
A cut and colour with the criminally expensive hairdresser who is 5 years younger than me (at least) and still mothers me, and all the salon workers known my name and ooh and ahhh over the cut when she’s done. It’s worth it! It’s also worth it to say “oh, just this little place on Newbury St.” when people ask where I get my hair done.
Sandwiches. Wee, dainty sandwiches, with smoked salmon or cucumber or what not in them. Cut into triangles. Maybe with the crusts off.
A visit to Filene’s basement where I can buy something new and pretty without blowing the budget. I am still too cheap to pay full retail for most clothes
Wearing something I knit.
Wearing ludicrous stripy socks with boots with an otherwise innocuous outfit, to work.
Wearing something with pink or purple in it.
Wearing a necklace that I made.
I’ve followed y’all’s advice and ordered a new bathtub, booked a pedicure (which will be immediately hidden under my barn boots), and dusted off my yoga DVD. (Ooh, that’s what I really needed. That felt goood!)
Don’t you know that such an attitude as yours will get you booted from the Gnarly’s Women’s Caber Tossing and Pink-Ruffled Unicorn Collectors" Society?
Monstro! Something else we have in common – I make necklaces too. But mine can keep 'gators away.
Thanks, everybody. My first grandchild was off to college and I just needed women-talk.
First a nice long relaxing bath, then a quiet morning curled up in the sun reading.
For lunch, going to this wonderful tea house close by, with crepes and salad to die for! They also serve cute little pieces of bread, with honey whipped butter that just melts in your mouth. Dont forget the mango iced tea to crown off the meal.
After that, a successful shopping trip then back to the sun-drenched couch to finish up my wonderful book.
I have only had a day or two like this, but il be damned it was nice!
Stripy socks! I knew I forgot something. I have a pair of knee-high Pippi Longstocking socks that always make me grin when I wear them, even though nobody sees them.
Bubble baths and nice lingerie and cosmetics are fun. But (this may sound really shallow) my spirit gets a tremendous boost when a man who is much younger than me flirts or says something complimentary about my appearance.
I know that my husband thinks I am good-looking, and that is immensely important. But oh, how my heart went flippety-flop a while back, when a cute guy half my age tried to hit on me while we were waiting in line at the grocery.
I don’t get out much. Maybe that explains my exhilaration at being a sex object for someone who is twentysomething.
Ohhhhhhhh tea houses. Why oh why are there no tea houses in this town? Every wide spot in the road has one, but not this metro area. How sad.
I long for a place where I can order a pot of tea and a plate of sandwiches and cakes.

Pet my kitties and baby-talk to them.
How cruel. Surely you knew that my bitterness is due solely to the fact that they wouldn’t have me. (sniffle)
I live in Brisbane and we use our fireplace frequently here in winter. We don’t have central heating, and damn it gets cold sometimes at night! (Cold for my poor little Queenslander sensitivities anyway.)
Anyway, the important stuff…
