This one’s for the ladies. What traditionally female activity are you fond of, even if you don’t normally do “girly” things? Do you love shoes? Shopping? Cutesy knick knacks?
For me, it’s animated movies (like Disney) and romantic comedies. I also read some romance, even though it’s not my primary genre.
Much to the unhappiness of my male friends, especially Jester, I am a hopeless romantic. I tend to fall in love with anyone and everyone (well, technically, they have to be fictional or dead or WAY out of my reach) who is in the slightest bit romantic.
I’m in love with Percy from the Scarlet Pimpernel, Col from my Exiles book, Michael from LFN… the list goes on… and on… and on…
I hate shopping though. I can never figure out what to get anyone! I mean, hell. I’m dating JESTER. What am I gonna get THAT nutcase?! (No offense, honey… <sweet smile> )
I do have a thing for scarves.
And silk.
Romantic comedy movies are great.
Romance novels…
I think that’s about it. I tend to avoid doing most “girly” things…
I’m pretty ungirly for the most part. Two things I can’t resist, though, are jewelry, especially rings and earrings, and expensive bubble bath.
I used to like playing with makeup, but these days I considered myself well-groomed if I’ve brushed my teeth before I get to work.
Shoes don’t do it for me and I never read romance novels, although I do read a lot of mysteries, which seems to be a fairly girly thing, for some reason.
I’m fairly ungirly, too, but I like to do my nails - bright red. That always makes me feel like a girl.
I also like to get a glass of wine and a good mystery novel and read in a bubble bath.
I always feel really girly when I go to get my hair done. I read Cosmo, they give me wine, and I kick back listening to all the gossip from the hairdressers. I get my hair highlighted and it always ends up being a whole Saturday afternoon event.
Wow, short shameful confessions. I’m not very girly either, but I really like it when my date actually has a clue about what he wants to do during the date. Other than that, I really like hair conditioner. Ones that smell good and take out tangles…mmmmmmm. I spend a shocking quantity of money on hair toys (everything from pony-tail elastics to fancy barrettes and bun-holders).
Well I’m pretty much a tomboy, my ex reminded me of tha recently. But I adore Disney movies, especially Disney songs, they’re my pride and joy. I have two or three Disney song books and quite a few CDs. I love romance novels, okay so they’re trashy and cheesy but it gives me a glimpse of how I wish things could be. I’m a romantic, or at least I was until recently, I wanted to believe in prince charming and that guys could actually be sweet. I love getting manicures and pedicures, it just feels so nice. Anything that smells yummy, like bath & body works or victoria’s secret stuff. I adore stuffed animals, especially the cute ones they sell around the holidays, I really want the victoria’s secret one, it’s adorable. looks over her list Except for hating to dress like a girl… umm… does that make me girly?
Hey! I’m male, and I do “girly” things too! Where’s my post allowed? Hey, stop making fun of me!
I love to shop, I’m a hopeless romantic (and an idiot to match), and I have okay fashion sense (despite the fact that I don’t look like I do, I just don’t care that much to use it. But I can!).
I’ll just go off and play with my barbies, screw you!
Shoes - I love shoes and boots. Last year I tried on 27 different pairs of knee high boots to find the right ones. Dammit and I’m proud of it. I think I’ll wait for the sales this year.
Incidentally it’s close to midnight here and I’m looking up amber jewellery on Google for tommorrow I plan to buy a hideously expensive but gorgeous amber necklace. My Christmas present to myself.
When I feel a little low - I will put on my ball dresses and flounce around the house all dressed up. It does get a little embarrassing when someone comes to the door. Especially since I usually wear trousers and clothes that only fitted me three years ago.
Oh and Totoro, I used to rip the heads off my barbies - can I come and play?
I am not “girly” in the way those b*tches I went to high school with were/are, but I love to shop for clothes or new shoes, I adore cooking and I am obsessed with Hello Kitty.
I’m “ungirly” too. I hate skirts with a passion and won’t wear one unless I have to. I like pretty ball dresses, though. They make me feel like a princess. And those Renaissance dresses are awesome. I’ve got a really nice black one that I wore for Halloween and I try it on from time to time. And I like glitter on my hair and eyes.
the hopeless romantic thing (I believe that everyone does have a soulmate, everyone can fall hopelessly in love, and everyone can live happily ever after. Disney movies are my downfall.)

…playing dressup…
99.9% of the time, I wear sweatshirts, jeans, and some kind of non-descript shoes. I don’t bother with makeup or jewelry or anything like that. But, every so often, then an event will come along (or I will manufacture an event (I went to the opera for the first time because of this)) for which I need to look appropriate - and then, I’ll go all out. Spend days shopping for the right dress, the right accessories, the right shoes, the right everything - and spend the entire day getting ready, twirling in the mirror (twirling is so underrated), acting the same way I did when I was little and wanted to grow up to be a Princess and had to practice by wearing my solid gold dress a lot.
I love shoes; hate shopping with a passion, but love to buy shoes. C3, are you my lost twin? I love long, soaking bubble baths w/ a glass of wine and a murder mystery. (Or a really juicy crossword puzzle.)
Skirts, pants, no difference in how they make me feel, except physically; skirts, especially long ones, are damned comfortable. Hate makeup, both the yucky feel of it and the look. (It makes my face feel dirty; same w/ hair sprays, gels, etc.) But I don’t feel “dressed” w/o my restrained eye makeup. Go figger.
But I prefer delicate, dainty “things” like crystal perfume bottles, small jewelery, etc. overall. I like some modern, clean-lined things, but so much of it is just clunky.
