That (girly) thing you do

I’m pretty un-girly myself, but I do love two things:

Bubble baths & pedicures.

Since I’m not allowed nail polish on my fingers, I switched to my toes. Pedicures also help with the fact that I’m on my feet 8 hours a day, so it’s an excuse to get a foot massage.

Bad day? Bubble bath (with Bath & Body Work’s Citrus-Basil Bubble Bath and a copy of Vanity Fair is my perfect escape.

And here I was thinking I was the only one to do un-girly things. I despise shopping, cooking and babies don’t do a thing for me. Uh, cooking, comma, babies…not cooking babies. That’s just not right. I do adore Historical Romance novels, and love love love Jamie from the Outlander series. He’s a big strong red-heid Scot, yum!

I am hopelessly “ungirly.” I don’t even hang out with many girls because the very qualities that many of them possess (i.e. petty and catty) are foreign and annoying to me. I think the one girly thing I LOVE is “playing dress up.” Most of the time I dress comfortably, but when homecoming or prom or any other formal event rolls around, I love spending the day getting all pampered and made up to feel like a princess. The rest of the time? I avoid skirts and dresses like the plague.
As for the romance thing? I used to be a hopeless romatic as well…then I found out romance itself is hopeless… :frowning: (and I’m still a teenager…good thing I found out early!)

I am the exact same way. I NEVER where skirts or dresses, except for that really special occasion, and then I love to go all out. I love to get all dressed up. I love to get the gorgeous dress, the fancy hair-do, and the make-up. Also, along with most of the other people who have answered this post, I am a hopeless romantic. I can’t help it. I watch those cheesy romantic movies and I still get all choked up when the two people, who you know have been meant for eachother throughout the entire movie, finally kiss. Oh, It just gets me everytime. Sigh

Nail polish. Shiney, metallic, glitter, i can’t ever get enough of them. I’ll might wear jeans and a t-shirt with unbrushed hair, but i’ll always have good nail polish.

Dress up is fun. It is one of many reasons I like going to the theatre and being in plays. The last play I was in, I got to wear this beautiful chinese robe made from raw white silk and embroided with gold and silver thread. They made me up with lots of eyeliner and red lipstick neither of which I usually wear, I’m too scared that I’ll poke my eye out and that I won’t pull off the lipstick(I bought some for New Year though)
This year I want to do the Rocky Horror Show and dance in fishnets in front of the people who think I’m weird. It’s going to be so much fun.

Yeah, I love those historical romance novels too. I have… ummm… far too many, let’s just say that. blushes

Jamie is pretty awesome too.

I’m pretty much a non-chick, chick. I mean, I hate wearing skirts and stuff-but I have to for work. The only other thing I do that’s pretty darn girly is buff my nails. I am completely insane about having shiny, non-polished nails. I don’t know, it just makes me feel girly.

and JavaMaven1, have you tried buffing your finger nails. If you can’t wear polish, this is the way to go. They look like you have clear polish on them, and it helps them grow a bit faster, I think. Of course, that could be wishful thinking.

well i like to get my hair cut and coloured, which is girly.
i get bored with my hair most of the time…at the moment i have streaks of pink…
i like to watch romantic movies, when i’m in the mood…
i also like experimenting with make-up.

I absolutely love stuffed animals. I’ll go shopping with friends sometimes and the only thing I’ll buy is a teddy bear.

And I squeal like a little girl around puppies or kitties.

I’m not very girly in many ways. I hate shopping, unless it’s for books. I’m not a hopeless romantic. I’m not very romantic at all, really. I tend to be very matter of fact, and hate getting emotional. I don’t cry. I don’t even get PMS. I like math and the sciences. I want to be a physics major (not a traditional field for women). I scoff at romance novels.

I am girly about my nails. I like to have them done all the time, and keep them fairly long. I have a manicure kit, and an extensive nail polish collection. I do like to look pretty, and like low cut tops. I usually like to have my makeup done when I go out. I do enjoy getting dressed up once in a while, especially when I get to wear a dress and heels. I enjoy long bubble baths and nice fragrances. I pluck my eyebrows, shave my legs, and wax my armpits.

I guess my goal is supermodel on the outside (ha!), and a combination of Spock, Mae West, and Douglas Adams on the inside. Wish me luck.

I was always a tomboy. Almost all of my friends are male. I play video games. When I buy my son a Matchbox car, I buy myself one, too. I play with his Legos, too…

However, when I’m being Anastasia Beaverhousen (i.e. my alter ego), I just gotta shop! I also like pretty, decolletage bras but only in black. Even though I only wear cotton underwear, I have to get the thongs or extremely hi-cut ones from Vicky’s. I love to show of my legs and boobs. Almost all of my shirts are low-cut or very fitting (not trashy tight but showin’ off the curves, if you know what I mean).

That’s it. Other than that, you’ll find my playing flag football with my hubby and pals.

I could have written that, Lyllyan. I think I am missing that maternal gene, really, it was replaced with the dog/cat gene.

Example: My boss (at the time) and his wife had a baby about 6 months before Christams. They also have two wonderful Golden Retrievers. They decided to host it at their house. All of my office mates brought a gift for the baby (in addition to the secret santa gift) except for me, I brought presents for the dogs. One for right then, and a good one for their stockings.* It didn’t even occur to me to bring something for the baby.
My Girly thing is Historical Romance novels as well. I just adore a cheap torrid bodice ripper. And yes, Jamie is one damn fine man…we should all have one

*Yes, I’m the type of person to have stockings for my pets.

Ooh! I love cooking - actually collect cookbooks - it’s better than collecting little knickknacks or Beanie Babies, right?

Not too into dressing up/makeup, though I did stage makeup and wardrobe in high school drama productions. Maybe that took it out of my system. I get the jewelry bug out of the way by working part time as a merchandiser for a jewelry company - I do the displays, so I get to play with all the pretty new stuff that comes in  .

I’m not into shoes, as I have very hard to fit feet, and there’s little I loathe more than shoe shopping, since almost nothing fits, and what does fit is so damned ugly.

I love shopping, I giggle sometimes with an occasional squeak, and when you poke me in the side, I sometimes shriek. I also have got a bit of a skirt fetish now. I just love wearing skirts. Makeup has always been a fun toy, but not for everyday anymore. What can I say, I’m lazy.

I am reading the Outlander series right now…Jamie is so hot…

I will admit it: I am pretty girly. I actually fought it for a long time, trying to overcome my drive to get cute hair cuts, buy lots of shoes and spend way too much money on make-up. I don’t know what changed but one day I realized that it was okay for your shoes and bag to match and that silk stockings felt better than nylon. I love lots of bracelets and earrings.

I know I sound like June Cleaver, but it just ain’t so. In fact, one of my favorite things in the world is digging in the dirt (I’m a gardener).

Most everyone I know doubts I’m actually a woman. I don’t coo over babies, I hate shopping, I loathe makeup, you get the picture. Aside from the anatomy, there are few reminders that I am indeed woman:

  1. Crying at the drop of a hat over movies
  2. Fruity smelling lotions (Bath & Body Works is my heaven)
  3. Diamonds (although I don’t own any)
