You may, or may not believe this, but the cutest, most mellow and up-and-happy songs I’v ever heard is Alice Cooper’s “The Song That Didn’t Rhyme”. It’s like sesame street with maple syroup on top.
Another of my favourites is John Lennon’s “Oh My Love” and Beth Gibbon’s and the Rustin Man’s “Mysteries”. Check them out. They’re the sort that make you all mushy inside.
“La Vie en Rose” by Edith Piaf (well, she sings it, someone else is the composer)
ooh! ooh! waves hand frantically
two from Led Zeppelin: “Ten Years Gone” (this one is almost literal musical beauty, for me) and “The Rain Song” (kinda sad-sounding, but gorgeous)
Sade: “No Ordinary Love” (mmmm, beauty-sex)
The Ink Spots: “Maybe” (the opening song from the PC game Fallout… smooth)
and lately I’ve this strange fascination with Incubus’s “Aqueous Transmission”. Gets me all gooey. =P
The Music Store is still coughing up furballs on the carpet.
I will try again later.
Much thanks all!
Two from Led Zep. “Tangerine” and “Going to California”.
I’ve always liked “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel.
Don’t Know Much by Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville.
Humor Me by Dean Friedman - but you’ll never find that one on iTunes.
Terminal by Rupert Holmes - good luck on that one, as well.
In My Room by The Beach Boys.
Moondance by Van Morrison.
How’s that for a start?
Ok, HERE. COMES. THE FCKING. SUN!*
[sub] Amen or Angel Standing By* by Jewel. The Man With The Child In His Eyes, Kate Bush[/sub]
“Nothing Matters When We’re Dancing” – Magnetic Fields, 69 Love Songs, Volume One
“My Sentimental Melody” – Magnetic Fields, 69 Love Songs, Volume One
“The Fairest of the Seasons” – Nico, Chelsea Girl
“1917” – Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt, Western Wall: The Tucson Sessions
And although I hesitate to call any Tom Waits song “pretty,” “Coney Island Baby” from his Blood Money CD is a truly lovely and sweet song.
OK, I am now downloading stuff.
Is there a good version of Amazing Grace? for that matter, what about Lift Up Your Voice and Sing?
OK, I am done.
I got the Blind Boys of Alabama’s Amazing Grace (a very nice, if nonstandard version).
I also scored half of the Liverpool Oratrio, it is a two-disc set and iTunes only seems to have Disc One.
Grumble!
