Pretty Songs (again)

There was a recent thread about The Prettiest Song.

That (and my Hajj vacation boredom) has me working on my iPod playlists. In my new ‘Pretty Songs’ list I have:

Dream a Little Dream of Me Mama Cass
The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face Roberta Flack
Scarbrough Fair Simon and Garfunkle

OK, what else goes on my new list?

Linger, by The Cranberries

Radiohead - No Surprises

An absolutely stunning song, maybe Radiohead’s prettiest.

Isn’t this playlist gonna give you toothache?

Maybe you could sprinkle in some uglyness to freshen the pallette?

Normally I’d say The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, but you’ve already got that.

I just heard something terrific by Polyphonic Spree but I’ve got no track listing for the CD so I can’t name it (a little help people? the guys sings “the sun makes me shine” or something like that)

One of the “prettiest” songs I’ve ever heard:
(It’s in German, but it’s contemporary…not an “oom pah pah” song. lol- definitely worth a listen even if you don’t speak German -its prettieness transcends language.)

Xavier Naidoo- Auf Herz und Nieren

Here’s a couple by a band called Sparklehorse that I consider pretty (maybe lilting and haunting is more accurate.). Any other Sparklehorse tune is worth a listen, too btw.
Sparklehorse- Apple Bed
Sparklehorse- Come on in
Sparklehorse- Hundreds of Sparrows

damn multiple posts…but another one occured to me…
Sade- By your side

Light & Day / Reach For The Sun?

Who the heck sang that cute song…
kiss me under the (something something)
we’ll take your father’s map (someplace)
…so kiss me

Lovely female voice, which I seem to be unable to remember.

Beautiful South?

“All I Know”–Art Garfunkel

“Beautiful”–Gordon Lightfoot

“Have You Never Been Mellow”–Olivia Newton-John

Okay, I’ll go sit in the wussy section now.

Led Zeppelin - That’s the Way or Bron Yr Aur
Tin Hat Trio - O.N.E.O or Fear of the South
Tullycraft - Glitter and Twang
Paul Simon - Diamonds on the Soles of her Shoes
Smashing Pumpkins (or, in a pinch, the Fleetwood Mac original) - Landslide
Tom Petty - Wildflowers or Don’t Fade on Me

Paul, that song is “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None the Richer.

“We’re All Alone” by Boz Scaggs (better) or Rita Coolidge
“Look What You’ve Done to Me” by Boz Scaggs
“Auld Lang Syne” by Dan Fogelberg

Errrr … that should be “Same Old Lang Syne” by Dan Fogelberg.

Try “Jealous Guy” by either John Lennon, or the very good cover by Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music.

I guess ‘The Eternal’ by Joy Division is pretty in a fragile, haunting way. And that’s all I can think of.

Carrickfergus - Brian Ferry
Rainy Night House - Joni Mitchell
John Barleycorn Must Die - Traffic
