Talented guy. Despite some of his personality, he seemed to me to be a decent enough guy. Sorry to see him go and he certainly went too early.

He was the first artist I ever heard and immediately said “who is that? I need all of his records!” A true genius who influenced my generation in countless ways. Miss him already.

I heard he died as a result of the flu. Having had it myself 3 weeks ago, I can attest that it was a very bad strain: I was wondering if I might expire, at one point. Horrible way to go.

I’m just getting over it myself. For a couple days there, I thought about going to the hospital, it was so bad.
Dang, that sucks. I just heard “Seven” coming in to work, and remembered how much I loved the NPG era of Prince. Now I read this? Dang.
An early memory I have of Prince was when I was about 13 or 14. I signed up for Columbia House and got all my free tapes. Then I forgot to pick one for the next month, so the automatic selection was sent to me. It was Prince’s Lovesexy. I happened to open the box in front of my mom, who about had a stroke when she saw it. Needless to say, it got sent back and mom worked her magic with Columbia House to get me out of the contract.
Oh man, that sucks. One of the greatest musical talents of my lifetime, to be sure. Always wanted to see him live but never got to.

Most of his music was not to my taste, but I think his musical talent was undeniable and he certainly hewed to his own self-determined style rather than followed what was popular. I’m sure his death will cement an entry in “Awesome Mix #2” in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 2 if it didn’t before. Maybe “Little Red Corvette”?
