Prince Harry dresses as a Nazi - so what?

So does he usually look like Beavis, or is that a recent development?

Thats a pretty lame Nazi uniform for a crown prince. Don’t you think he could afford something a bit more than just the armband?

Tall glistening black boots? A pair of tight black pants? A tunic with red and silver highlights? A black cap with silver death’s head?

I have never been to that sort of party. Sounds like fun.

Hey, he was up all night working on that uniform - the swastika alone took him hours! Put yourself in his boots with all his princely duties and tell ME how you’d get time to sew up a classy Nazi uniform! Mark my words, heads will roll in his support staff because of this gaffe!

It matters as much as any minor political person dressing up as a Nazi. IE though it is not the end of the world, it does show very poor taste. Dressing up as a Nazi without very good reason (such as being in a war film) shows the person to be a prat.

Except prettier. (And in a Nazi uniform? Damn. Just give him a riding crop and send him to my tent, why don’t you.)

Seriously, though:

Well, no. They have an essential governmental function; essentially, the Queen is legally the embodiment of the British state, and Harry is third in line to become that embodiment. Personally, I think the Nazi uniform itself (oh, for Gods’ sake, it’s a costume, people) is less disturbing than some of his grandfather’s saltier comments; the part that’s worrisome is the poor judgment to wear the thing in the first place.

I don’t think it’s quite gotten through to him that he has been born into an institution that is both essential and precarious. Cast enough discredit on the monarchy, and people will start to get serious about getting rid of it. And then you’re in a pretty pass, because the constitutional situation in Britain is so intimately bound up with the Crown that so substantially altering it would be a nightmare I don’t think they want to sort out any time soon.

It sucks for him – considering some of the stuff I got up to from 16 to 20, a joint an an outrageous costume are at the very low end of expected teenager rowdiness. But that’s what you’ve got to give in exchange for the palaces, chum. Maybe Sandringham will do him some good.

I didn’t expect to laugh this much when i opened the thread, thanks Usram.

Sandringham?? WTF?? Sandhurst. Gah.

Was anybody else reminded of this Barry Levinson movie?

[wildly paraphrased from memory]

Mother (Bebe Neuwirth): “Young man, go upstairs and get out of that uniform right now!”
Son: “It’s only a costume!”
Mother: “Do it!!”
Son: “But Mom, it’s for the Halloween party, tonight!”
Mother: “NOW!!!”
[Son scrambles upstairs.]

Harry showed very poor judgement, but I can see why a young guy might think a Nazi costume would be a gas. It’s called black (or sick) humor…

I’m surprised the family’s Nazi members haven’t gotten more press. (Prince Philip’s sisters were all married to Nazi officers and as such were not invited to his wedding to the Princess Elizabeth.)

Harry gets bonus points from me if he actually used one of their swastika armbands. (Of course the royal family can trace its ancestry directly to Satan through Mesuline of Angou, so it could be worse.)

He, Roger CLinton, and Billy Carter’s ghost should form a band and call themselves “The Fredo’s” or something. Frank Stallone could sing.

Roger Clinton reminds me…

Why is it that if you’re Southern, inbred, marry your cousin, live off government money and embarass yourself when cameras are around, they call you whitetrash or, at best, redneck?

But, if you’re English and inbred, marry your cousin, live off government money and embarass yourself when cameras are around, they call you His Royal Highness?

It’s unfair.

Well, just try it is Liverpool and see how far you get.

Some thoughts:

1.When people go to private fancy dress parties - dressed in fancy dress, they do so to take the piss out of themselves, not the person, animal, object or situation they are dressed in.

2.Laffing and taking the piss out of idiots is global medicine. Has no-one heard of “The Producers”? Its on the London stage at the min ! Are the people who wrote, act and pay to see it disrespecting the victims of the holocaust?

3.He is a student trying to be different and get laid. Is this really worse than smoking a spliff or getting chucked out of a pub?

4.As channel 4 has just asked - would it be as terrible if he had gone dressed as SH?

5.His advisers should be sacked. You should not let a major royal go anywhere dressed as a Nazi - especially during 60 year memorial times. He did, he apologised - maybe he should have done it on tv to really calm the situation. Everything else is moral grandstanding ( M Howard for one ).

6.I like having a slightly rebelious heir. Bit more interesting than Charlie or the tall one !

6.AMERICA HAS STOPPED LOOKING FOR WMD COZ THERE ARNT ANY - now thats a fucking story !

Yeah…I saw that and I thought, “Well, isn’t this kind of inevitable, then? Somebody would have thought of it.” Except that others, if they did think of it, presumably thought better of it. Unless there was someone else in a similar getup whom the photographers conveniently overlooked?

Totally. It may not be fair, but neither is life. That’s the position he’s in; he should deal with it.

The hell of it is, I can see that happening. Wonder how Daddy’s people would spin it?
This is probably because the IRA blew up her favourite great-uncle Lord Louis Mountbatten.

:smack: Clearly, that last line shouldn’t have been in there.

Anyway, sinical, who’s SH?

And, while I’m okay with a “slightly rebellious” heir, Harry is regularly portrayed as rude and arrogant. If that’s accurate, then it’s not cool.

SH = Saddam Hussein

Rilchiam - “Harry is regularly portrayed as rude and arrogant.”

By the tabloids. They will portray people whichever way sells most papers. Even better if there is one who looks like Di and is nice, and a ginger one who is " rude and arrogant." ( no offence meant to our redhead friends ). I think its called juxtaposition.

Anyway, I’m sure he is a bit rude and arrogant. I think its called adolesence.

And of course the head of our state too Matt_mcl.

If people can get into an uproar on what Adrian Clarkson’s wife… er husband says and writes I’d dare say this can qualify for a major annoyance to us as well. Do you really want that Twit on the throne? Aside from proclaiming ourselves a republic any way to kick him out of the line of succession?

Let’s see…poor judgement, dark humor, small amount of defiance–yep, we have a teen on our hands.

I highly doubt (and was glad to read) that PH had any sinister intent or any message to spout. Dumb? Yes. (I, too, question his advisors–doesn’t he have a valet or similiar?).

But 20 is not all that old these days, and IMO he is paying for the prank now–and will for all time, given the press!

Now, if had worn that costume and also spouted some Aryan BS–then we are in deeper shit.

I sometimes wonder if Diana were alive, if some of this stuff would occur. Just idle speculation.
