Prince Harry on 60 Minutes — what’s his story? Good guy? Spoiled brat? What?

Apparently it was the paparazzi driving crazily, not Prince Harry’s convoy [one thinks of his mother’s (Princess Diana) death].

I keep hearing that phrase this morning (“near catastrophic”), but the descriptions don’t indicate that it was anywhere near “catastrophic.” I suppose that’s more a complaint about irresponsible media editing practices than anything.

Also: two hours? At some point, don’t you just pull into a McDonald’s and hide in the washroom?

“Near catastrophic” was the wording used by the couple’s spokesperson. It should be in quotation marks in the title of the above article.

Manhattan’s a tough place to find a public restroom. Very tough.

I also believe “near catastrophic” should have a hyphen, as a compound adjective.

So now they’re trapped in a McDonald’s restroom. How does that help the situation?

from the article:

Traffic violations were said to have included driving on the sidewalk, running red lights, reversing down a one-way street, driving while on the phone, driving while photographing and illegally blocking a moving vehicle.

It was claimed that individuals involved were confronted by uniformed police multiple times and sped off to continue the pursuit.

driving on the sidewalk could be catastrophic, as well as driving on phone, and photographing. thankfully, there were no accidents, this will have harry feeling more entrenched in his feelings for the press.

I want to see a map of their route.

141 west 54th street to i believe the 19th precinct at 153 east 67th. they were able to regroup at the precinct and get to where they were staying from there.

Paparazzi need to be more respectful when covering the Harry and Meghan World Privacy Tour.

I don’t have to see or hear from them?

NYPD said it was not a near catastrophe just a bit chaotic, and the couple made it to their destination safely yet there were no injuries, arrests or summons.

Sounds like the source of all the overblown drama is the couples spokesperson.

Funny that Harry very publicly flew from California to London and back without being chased by paparazzi.

Interesting how the article never mentions who said these things - sure, driving on the sidewalk could be catastrophic - if it happened. I really doubt that there were multiple confrontations with uniformed police who let them go on their way if they were driving on the sidewalks and running red lights. And why would the paparazzi be driving on sidewalks and running red lights if the car they were following wasn’t doing something other than obeying all traffic rules? I mean, if the first car is driving 25 miles an hour, the “following” cars aren’t doing 60.

There’s no way anything you could call a “chase” happened for two hours in NYC. Not unless one car following another at a not particularly high rate of speed constitutes a “chase” - because I can barely believe that they may have been followed for two hours (where were they traveling to and from that took two hours?) but I do not believe it was even ten minutes of a near catastrophic “pursuit” or “chase”.

Is it possible that Harry and Meghan have exaggerated a situation for media attention?

I for one would be shocked, shocked I tell you.

i don’t believe the chase happened for 2 hours. i do believe that it could be 2 hours from the time they left the ball room to when they got to the apt where they were staying.

the actual chase time could be 10-20 minutes, then regrouping at the police precinct, and finally to the apt.

perhaps ordeal would be a better word choice.

It’s midtown Manhattan, you can’t “pull into” a McDonalds. They’re storefronts, they don’t have drive-throughs or parking lots. Same with every other restaurant and public establishment.

They also don’t have restrooms that are open to the public. If they have a restroom at all, they are only accessed via a code or token you get at counter when you make a purchase.

If you’re driving yourself, you’re pretty much stuck in the car, there no place where you can easily park or even pull over.

“Attention Whores seek attention! Tune in at 6:00 for the full story, right after our lead story about the dead skunk in the middle of the road.”

“This is Gary Glompers reporting live from the Van Wyck Expressway in New York! The skunk has been moved to the side and we are now showing you pictures of the actual pavement that Meghan Markle and some ginger twit may have actually driven over”.

By my read I’m not seeing where they said they had to stop the exercise as a result of that.

They shoulda did what every father tells his daughter to do, drive to the police station. Surely in NYC you could find one in under two hours. They must have gps, right?
