He should be the Duke of Earl.
She won’t be “Princess Meghan” but she will be a princess, because princes’ wives are princesses.
At what point do their kids become “honorables” rather than titled? I guess the oldest inherits the title, on down the line, but who is the first non-titled “honorable”, if I have my terminology correct (all of which I learned from watching Downton Abbey, btw.)
Also, unless the Queen changes the rules (as she did for William), their children won’t be prince(ss)es until the Queen dies. Without that, the eldest son would use a courtesy title (probably whatever Harry’s earldom is, assuming he’s made a duke, earl, and baron), and the rest would be Lord/Lady X Mountbatten-Windsor until then.
According to Wikipedia that won’t happen until Charles ascends the throne or if the Queen issues new letters patent. Otherwise they’ll just be titled as children of a Duke (presuming Harry is given a dukedom as expected).
I wonder if she’s going to get a private act of Parliament like Princes Phillip & Albert did; or will she have to establish residency and go threw the same multi-year process as everyone else?
She’s not even first actress to marry into the House of Windsor; that honour falls on the Lady Frederick Windsor, wife of the Queen’s first cousin’s son.
Yes, St George’s Chapel only seats about 800 people (Westminster Abbey seats about 2,000). Personally I was hoping they’d marry somewhere in Scotland.
I wonder how easily Meghan will adjust to a restricted life as a royal?
She’s already made significant changes. She wrote a blog for several years. Had a successful tv show. She shut down her blog early this year and quit her show a few weeks ago. She’s giving up her life in Canada.
It’s going to be an adjustment for her. Heck it’s hard for any 36 year old to give up their independent life and marry. By that age you’ve already got a set routine.
Baptized? Unless she belongs to a denomination with no baptism, that doesn’t seem right.
Yeah, even Catholics have accepted most mainstream protestant Baptisms since Vatican II. And the Anglican and Catholic Churches have been particularly accommodating to each other for some time.
It might be purely ceremonial if it’s going to happen at all.
Or she’s never belonged to a denomination at all. Or she did as a child, but it didn’t do infant baptism, and her family fizzled out before it got to that point.
It’s not unusual at all for an American of her age to have never been baptized, even if the family comes from some kind of Christian tradition.
I missed that the BBC has apparently determined that she is protestant, but that can mean a LOT, especially in the USA where all of the weird churches that were expelled from Europe flourished like weeds (and mutated).
For example, I was raised with the vague understanding that we were Christians, but my parents never actually did anything to reinforce it. They were raised as baptists, so I guess we were protestant, but I was never baptized because having me sprinkled as a baby wouldn’t have occurred to either of them, and we were never members of a church that would have pushed for it to happen.
My understanding, and I may be wrong, is that lapsed members of infant-baptizing churches often come back when they have a new baby to have that taken care of, but I don’t think that’s as much of a thing in the other churches. Like, maybe it happens, but I’ve never heard of an unchurched but culturally Christian family sending their 14 year old in to be dunked by Pastor Bob.
Man, looking at that interview, you really see the power of love chems in action. They are drowning in that stuff
Fwiw, I have a neigbour in a similar position. I thought she’d had kids by different fathers because the gorgeous girl was pale skinned and bright ginger and the other was a cheerful mixed race boy. But no … it’s going to be interesting!
Here is an article about who finds her race important and is talking about it on social media. It’s not racists (I’m sure they are too).
Let’s ace it. Americans are obsessed with race. I don’t know how much Brits share that obsessions, but we just can’t stop talking about it. And to be honest, it’s been a significant part of our history for a very, very long time, so it probably not all that surprising.
It has been quite interesting to hear and read comments from some observers. Some of the fawning forelock-tugging lovers of all things royal are now bumping up against their own racism. And they are losing their tiny minds.
ETA: I am referring to commenters in the U.K.
I can’t help it- when I see them together I’m hearing Michigan J. Frog singing “I’m just wild about Harry”
I like that the proposal happened while they were making dinner together. It wasn’t prepared by any servants, and it wasn’t at some exclusive restaurant. I wouldn’t be surprised if Charles has never prepared so much as a plate of cheese and crackers for himself. Diana raised those boys well.
When she wasn’t away in another country romping around with her current boo.
Cooking can be great fun, especially when you only have to do it whenever you choose to.
Incorrect. She will be HRH Princess Henry of Wales, according to the BBC.
