An interesting article about what she might be giving up to marry into the royal family:
I read a WaPo piece yesterday that pointed out that if she keeps her American citizenship, she will be required to file tax returns with the IRS. This would require asset disclosures and open up the British Royal’s finances to the US government - something the government of the U.K. does not have.
I read an article elsewhere that suggested this could be avoided by keeping their finances separate - but of course, that wouldn’t work for any future children who would be US citizens if she was a US citizen when they were born.
Which is one of the reasons Andrew, Edward, and William all got titles when they got married - so people wouldn’t have to call their wives by the husbands’ first names.
I think what ThelmaLou meant was, she won’t be called “Princess.”
This is the 21st century.
She’ll be Meghan Markle-Mountbatten-Windsor

Just wait until Meghan has to sign a credit card pad.
She better write very small letters and fit it in.
I’m fascinated by the way the public perception of Charles has changed since his divorce from Diana. I remember, before he was married, when the press remembered that he’d attended the most spartan boarding school in the British Isles, graduated university, and served for five years in the navy. When he was a globe-trotting sporting playboy, who’d roll in at Buckingham Palace in the early hours of the morning and make himself a pan of chips before bed.
Now, it seems, he’s somehow become an effete, out-of-touch dilettante, who can’t so much as put toothpaste on his own toothbrush, while Lady Diana Spencer of Althorp Manor is apparently seen as a down-to-earth woman of the people.
I don’t mean any disrespect to Diana, you understand – I’m sure she was a wonderful mother. Indeed, I quite recently saw one of her cooks demonstrating how to cook one of Prince Williams’s favourite childhood dishes, and testifying that Diana herself would insist that the staff prepare it for his birthday.
And she may not change the rules.
The royal family is changing, and the world is also changing. Prince Andrews daughters are Princesses, but since they won’t have official jobs as Princesses, the title becomes somewhat baggage. Prince Edward’s son and daughter are not - by his request - and while they are younger yet, might have a better chance of slipping into non-royal life.
Charles is rumored to want to keep the working family small - and while he sees Harry as being a working royal, I don’t know that he will want to put William in the position with his neices/nephews as he is currently with Andrew’s kids.
If she follows tradition, her signature will just be “Meghan.”
I’m aware of Mr. Frog, but the version of I’m Just Wild About Harry that I am most familiar with is by Al Jolson. In blackface. Ba Dump.
And in the 21st century not many people sign credit card slips any more. Or not on this side of the Atlantic at least.
You’re all forgetting the most important issue. Will she be able to drive on the left side of the road?
Sure, and Charles was a decent dad when he wasn’t sneaking around on a pregnant Diana playing Hide the Banger w/ Mrs. Parker-Bowles (while her son abused drugs).
The date has been set for May 19:
Will it include ambassadors and heads of state? I’m sure The Donald will want to attend.
Are they being married by a priest? How are they reconciling that with her being a divorcee?
Here’s a nice summary of the CofE’s stance on divorce/re-marriage from the BBC.
Note that it is up to the individual cleric to decide to perform the rite. The Church as a whole doesn’t usually get into particulars.
The final bit in the article about Charles and Camilla explains why they didn’t have a church wedding.
That’s highly unlikely. Unlike Charles & Diana William & Kate only had a “semi-state” wedding because he was only 2nd line to the throne; the diplomatic corps were invited, but no foreign (at least from outside the Commonwealth, which William will one day head) heads of state or government were invited other than foreign royalty (most of which falls under the category of family, however distant). Harry & Meghan’s wedding is going to be smaller than that so I’m guessing no diplomats and possibly Commonwealth dignitaries either). Frankly I’m a little surprised Trump hasn’t already made an ass of himself by presuming an invitation.
I’ll bet their children will be gorgeous. I guess she identifies as black, but when I saw her, not being familiar with her career, I wouldn’t have necessarily thought her biracial. Whatever, she is a stunner.
She identifies as biracial.
