I would physically disconnect the printer and uninstall the drivers. Reboot. Then run the setup cd to reinstall. Reconnect the printer only when the setup program is ready for it. It may not work but it won’t cost you anything to try it.
The first thing I always try is to print from a different program. i.e., if you are using Windows (I assume you are since you’ve called Microsoft tech support), I would type in a couple of lines in Notepad and try to print from Notepad.
Thanks guys, we’ve tried both—uninstalling, Notepad. Nada. Guess we’ll have to take it to the PC doctor next week. “We Fix You Up. We Fix You Up Real Good.”

did the copier function print black? what is the condition of your black cartridge?
We checked the cartridge and it seems to be fine. In the test page we ran (with those color bars) the black was there.
