Decades ago SS sent me, unbidden, a printout listing every job I ever had, and my earnings. I only ever got that one printout, Don’t know what reminded me of that. Did anyone ever get just the one, or do you get them regularly?
I got them every year for a while. They didn’t list jobs, per se, but yearly totals. I assume it’s all on line now.
It’s online now.
It’s all online now, and conveniently includes an estimate of your retirement benefits based on that information.
If you haven’t visited ssa.gov you really should set up an account just to poke around and get familiar with it. That doesn’t mean you’re ready to start or anything like that.
I download the statement every year. The idea is that you should check what the SSA shows as your income agrees with what you believe you were paid. (Some dishonest employers might not pay into the system.)
It’s always a nostalgic trip down memory road. I earned how much in 1994? No wonder I left the military. Why was 2005 so much higher than 2004 and 2006? Oh, yeah, a year of 14 hour days making sure we could build the Ford Fusion according to design (“to design” doesn’t always mean “properly,” but this actually was a good car).
Balthisar, you helped build the Ford Fusion - that’s a neat aside there. As you said it’s a great car. I’ve driven several models of them. Your feeling of pride is well placed.
For some reason I get one in the mail every once in a while and other times I get an email where I’m able to download the info. And it doesn’t list jobs, just yearly income totals from the first year I was employed up to now.
