Privacy on Glassdoor, good/bad?

So, I’m looking to hear the experiences of anybody who has posted a company or employer review on Glassdoor.

How are their privacy protocols? I don’t mean antifraud protocols, I mean, how likely is it that my boss will find out who I am when I post a company review on Glassdoor? (yes, my company monitors these sorts of websites)

I’m not going to post an all bad review, I like my job and my coworkers (mostly) but management is…well lets just say I’ve grown intolerant of them insisting I drink the koolade, and the daily inconsistance in SOP, so, the review isn’t going to be exactly great either.

Glassdoor seems pretty secure; that’s the good news. The bad news is that if you post anything with any detail you can be guessed. Where I work got slammed by quite a few people and I can name almost each one based on their position and word choices. Force of habit and sometimes we type as we speak.

My former employer has a few negative reviews on Glassdoor, and for some of these I can reduce it down to 2 possible authors. There’s also one glowing review, it’s anonymous but Glassdoor mentions that the author’s job title was “CTO”.

My understanding is Glassdoor doesn’t release details on who posted what. That said, I can tell you my company VERY carefully monitors Glassdoor, and any negative review is up for a lot of speculation around who wrote it. Even in a fairly large organization (~3K+ employees), you do risk them guessing who wrote the review. Job title, writing style, specific comments all tend to be pretty good clues.

Put it this way: If you are vocal about your dislike for X, Y, and Z at work and feel your voice is not being heard, don’t go write about how your company is really bad at X, Y, and Z on Glassdoor. Folks aren’t dumb, it’s easy to connect the dots.
