Ian Lavender, the youngest and last surviving member of the cast of Dad’s Army, one of the best TV comedies ever made, has died aged 77.
I’m not sure if it ever reached the US in any notable way, but is still being played regularly on UK television and frequently in Australia. While most of the cast played characters who were past military serving age, Private Pike was a medically unfit 19 year old, and played to gormless, whiny effect.
Dad’s Army is superb, gentle comedy based on razor-sharp writing and acting. Thoroughly recommended if you’ve never seen it - there’s plenty on Yourtube.
