Aborting a gay fetus doesn’t mean you’re homophobic, it means you want grandchildren. It would be an interesting empirical inquiry to compare the percentage of abortions of hypothetical gay vs. sterile fetuses, since any difference would be potential homophobia. But it’s a much better reason than hair color, especially in a society where couples only have 1-2 kids.

It actually isn’t a better reason. Selectively aborting a fetus just because you think it’s more or less likely to give you grandkids ~30 years later is not better or more sensible than choosing based on hair color. And that being said, gay people have kids all the time, both biologically and through adoption. If you have functioning equipment, you can have kids.
Since when can’t gay people reproduce and/or adopt? Though most of the anti-abortion, pro-adoption people I talk to are totally against gay adoption.
On a personal note, my sister the lesbian has given me eight nieces, but my two brothers and one sister have only given her two nephews and two nieces (none of them mine). Go figure.
Most people’s principals are a lot more flexible than you think. I have very little doubt that, in your scenario, the vast majority of strongly anti-gay people would at least struggle with the idea of getting an abortion, rather than having to raise a gay child, and a significant portion of them would go through with it.
If I were your mother, I would have aborted you if I had known before hand. And God would have thanked me.
