Saw this on t-shirt the other day in large bold letters…someone was actually wearing it. What ridiculous t-shirt logos/slogans have you seen recently?
Just a small hijack. Once cannot be Pro-Gun and Pro-Life. It’s like saying you are Pro-Life and Pro-Death Penalty, It just doesn’t work.
Carry on.
Works just fine assuming you’re not going to be shooting any feti, or sending them to the chair, as the case may be. Taking “pro-life” in its generally-understood sense, their viewpoint is that before you’re to be put to death you should have done something to deserve it, and being inconveniently conceived doesn’t count. You might find that you can’t empathise with them, but there’s nothing inherently self-contradictory about it.
No see, that’s the thing, “Taking ‘pro-life’ in its generally-understood sense” is bunk. Pro-Life is Pro-Life, Pro-Life is NOT Anti-Abortion. Anti-Abortion is an ASPECT of Pro-Life, but it is not, in and of itself, Pro-Life. This is what drives me CRAZY about those who have co-opted the term Pro-Life. Being Pro-Life means being against killing people. Period.
I liked the “OreGUN” sticker I saw on a truck in Oregon. Like we hadn’t figured it out already.
Surely you’re not serious here.
Ah. “Words don’t mean what people intend them to mean, they mean what I say they mean.” You’re equally indignant about the phrase “Pro-choice”, I assume? Last I heard, the only choice they were at all committed to preserving was the choice of whether or not to abort. When it comes to questions such as bumping off your inconveniently enduring granny, or beating your wife, they’re no closer to the position of “If you don’t want to do it, don’t do it, but let me choose for myself if I want to” than the rest of us.
One out of three ain’t bad…
For me, it’d be NO/Anti “god” Pro Choice, Pro Gun
Atheist gun owner who believes it’s the woman’s right to choose, and not be held hostage to a rapidly dividing clump of cells in her womb…
He is…and don’t call him Shirley.
MOD NOTE:
Mind the forum, guys – start a Great Debate if you want to debate pro-whatever, take it to the Pit if you want to go that route, but hijacking the topic isn’t an option here.
Well that’s just silly. Why not? First of all they’re entirely different issues; second of all; Pro-Gun doesn’t mean you’re pro murder-with-a-gun. You just as well say you can’t be pro-life and pro-baseball bat. Since I could use a baseball bat to kill someone.
Hey, look, a mod note. How about that…
never mind.
No, not period. Pro gun means wanting a gun for defense (or should). Defense does NOT contradict the stance of pro-life. I am not endorsing any of this simple minded slogan-brained shit, but don’t go thinking someone can’t be pro-life and pro-guns. You are simply wrong.
I’m with Stupid.
Pro-Choice = Pro-Abortion. I’ve only heard this from the anti-abortion crew about a million times.
I own a shirt that says in large letters, on the back
Rock Out With Your Cock Out
It is a band shirt, The Poor Dumb Bastards and has a rooster on the front
I have a few more and am rather careful where I wear them.
Capt
Yeah, that’s bullshit. I’m pro-abortion rights, but the phrase “pro-life” has a specific idiomatic meaning that is not the sum of its elements. When a person says she or he is pro-life, it’s commonly understood to mean “in favor or restrictions on access to abortion,” not “refusing to kill for any reason.” It is disingenuous to pretend otherwise.
I saw a billboard the other day on our latest RV trip. It just said “JESUS”, which, coincidentally, is exactly what I said when I saw it.
ANOTHER MOD NOTE:
Last chance on this one, folks – drop the hijack! I recognize that by its nature, asking “what ridiculous slogans have you seen lately” is inviting a lot of back-and-forth, but if you want to go off on the “god/guns/abortion” thing, start a Pit thread.
