Wait, what?! Your recollection of King of the Ring '98 differs from mine.

Allow me to suggest an edit:

  1. Undertaker throws Mankind off the top of the cage onto the announce table.
  2. Mankind leaps off the gurney as he is being wheeled out of the arena and runs down to the cage.
  3. Mankind climbs up the cage onto the top.
  4. Undertaker choke slams Mankind through the top of the cage onto the ring mat.
  5. Mankind not fully conscious shows a tooth driven through the roof of his mouth emerging from a nostril.
  6. Mankind empties a bag of thumbtacks onto the mat.
  7. Mankind puts the Mandible Claw on Undertaker
  8. Undertaker backdrops Mankind onto the thumbtacks.
  9. Undertaker choke slams Mankind onto the thumbtacks.
  10. Undertaker Tombstones Mankind onto the thumbtacks.

Whoops. You’re right. I think I accidentally conflated that with Shane jumping off the cage in his match with Taker.

Let’s start over;

Jey, from then on, had to do whatever Roman said or he’d be excommunicated. Post-match, Afa and Sika acknowledge Roman as the Tribal Chief, in what I believe is the first appearance of the Ula Fala.

That should have read “Muta Scale”.

  3. Trish Stratus

Easy pick. I was never a huge fan of Trish’s I have to say, but she undeniably put women’s wrestling on the map in the early 2000s in a way previously unthinkable and I think a direct line can be drawn from her success to the modern women’s revolution. Her and Lita were the first women to get a main event slot on Raw, (2001/2002 I believe).

Frankly, I prefer Lita as both a character and a worker but she could be sloppy at times and I think Trish’s popularity was more consistent and sustained.

Fight me!

Trish was the first woman wrestler I saw actually improve her wrestling ability during her time in WWE. Usually if they came in with serious experience they got worse, and if they came in without any they never got any better.

Winner of the first women’s match to main event Wrestlemania.

Agreed. IIRC, Trish was initially brought in as a valet for the tag team of Test and Albert. (Who were dubbed T&A, because of course they were…) she was a fitness model, and of course she got over way more than they did. But I remember hearing rumors from the time that she took the wrestling side of the equation extremely seriously, and didn’t want to be pigeonholed as a manager for the rest of her career. When she did start wrestling I thought she improved by leaps and bounds, and in fairly short order. But like I said in my previous post, I was never a huge fan of hers personally, but I have nothing but respect for her. Definitely one of the most important female wrestlers of all time.
