Best Women’s Champions of all-time

  1. Rhea Ripley
  2. Mildred Burke - The first great Women’s Wrestling Champion
  3. Trish Stratus
  4. Asuka
  5. Becky Lynch
  6. Victoria
  7. Bull Nakano

Held the AJW Championship for 3 years, AJW Jr. Championship, All Pacific Championship, WWWA Single and Tag Championships, and the WWF Women’s Championship.

I’m going to toss in an Honorable Mention for Gladys “Kill 'Em” Gillem. Never a champion but she was something like the woman’s wrestling version Terry Funk or Mankind, taking bump after bump in her matches. This video of a match between Gillem and Elvira Snodgrass shows the kind of awful head bumps she took in the ring leaving her with a huge knot on the back of her head and surely the terrible effects of CTE. She is seen in the documentary Lipstick and Dynamite, Piss and Vinegar: The First Ladies of Wrestling along with the Fabulous Moolah and Mae Young.

  7. Bull Nakano
  8. Madusa/Alundra Blayze

Struggling to come up with more names now. However the 90s were a wasteland in America for women’s wrestling. Medusa was a bright spot in an otherwise terrible time period.

I know there was a ton of great Joshi wrestling in Japan at the time, but I’m just not that familiar with it. I should probably go on YouTube and look for more Joshi stuff. We have Bull Nakano. Does anyone more familiar with Japan know if names like Manami Toyota, Cutie Suzuki, or Aja Kong belong on here?

  9. Gail Kim

Gail was one of the top technical wrestlers of her time. She was definitely tough, pushing the limits of women’s wrestling in TNA.

  1. Cody organizes and self-funds the first All In as the result of a bet with Dave Meltzer

It was the largest indy wrestling event ever, with competitors from half a dozen promotions, the first non-WWE show to sell 10,000 tickets in the US since the fall of WCW, and it lead to the launch of what’s now the number-two promotion in the world and the first serious competition WWE has had in decades. And it all happened because Meltzer said it couldn’t be done.

  3. Cody wrestles in Hell In A Cell a day after tearing his pectoral while training, sporting a massive bruise across half his chest

When they were talking about his injury early in the show I assumed it was a work. I audibly gasped when he took off his coat/robe and exposed the massive swath of purple.

Him competing in that match anyway was the moment I knew he was destined to be WWE Champion.

  7. After six years away, Cody returns to WWE as Seth Rollins’ surprise opponent at Wrestlemania

It was pretty well suspected by fans that Cody was going to be the mystery opponent, since it was known that he’d finished up with AEW, but the pop when his music hit was amazing. I was absolutely gobsmacked that they let him keep his AEW music and outfit and “American Nightmare” nickname considering Vince’s insistence on trying to own every aspect of his wrestlers’ personae.
