Pro wrestling business question : Is the network tv shows ultimately more important that the big PPV shows?

Ok an interesting thing was brought up the past couple of weeks about having big matches on The weekly tv shows instead of on the PPV show And one of the people who infamously did it years ago says yes the tv shows are more important and you should do it occasionally to make the network happy a lot of people say no wait for the PPV so you can make more money for your self

Is there a right answer t this or should it be on a case by case basis ?

In general any similar promotion would save the events with the biggest draw for live shows and Pay-Per-Views. Going back to the 1950s the business of professional boxing fell in a hole after over exposure on the new medium of television. It brought great ratings to television but did nothing for live ticket sales.

In the modern business of professional wrestling this situation is a case by case matter. Eric Bischoff is a failed wrestling promoter so his commentary should be taken with a grain of salt the size of the Ritz. The situation that did him in was an all out competitive war between two wrestling promotions of similar resources. Right now WWE is competing against a minor company for the crumbs left on the table. It’s not a comparable situation. WWE dominates the market and right now they can do whatever they want and they won’t fall apart.
