Been logged off twice so far over the last 15 minutes or so.
First time, I left the site, came back and logged back in.
The second time, I just stayed on the boards as an “un-logged-in” user … and after a minute or so, it showed that I was logged in again. No action on my part required.
I’d run across similar “Forgot password” schemes on other sites, so I just clicked OK without thinking about it.
What did trip me up initially on this site was that I expected Discourse to still know out old passwords … my expectation is that it would accept our old passwords but THEN prompt us for a password change. That’s not what happens.
If possible, please address Skypist’s first problem - the clusterfuck thread is now closed! (“more than 10,000 posts”)
Can anything be done to save this thread??
What many boards do is offer a range of responses – not simply “likes”. There can be “thanks”, “love that”, “I doubt that”, “come on, that’s terrible”, etc. Some boards even have custom icons that convey responses through board inside jokes.
List formatting (bulleted/numbered) isn’t displaying properly.
I noticed that some smilies aren’t displaying (maybe all of them; I haven’t done an inventory). I’ve also used the [del] tag in the past and that isn’t working either.
Not only does this LOOK much more like the old board … when clicking on the forum names on this page, the forums display a lot more like the old boards, too.
What’s not needed are the line-up of avatars at the right. Just skip all that.
After a bit of trial-and-error, I was able to determine that blue dot indicates that the post is unread. From what I can tell, the site appears to consider a post “read” once it’s been visible on your screen for about a second…so I’m not sure if that’s a “useful feature” or not.
The site does seem to automatically take you to the first unread post when you open a thread, so I guess that’s good.
