Problem children / punch list for fixes / TIPS AND TRICKS

I think I like that feature.

Do note that clicking the reply button on its own and not highlighting text to quote will mean that it isn’t immediately clear which post you are replying to. It doesn’t quote anything.

I will likely be highlighting for every reply.

@TubaDiva: Did you implement a time-out for editing of our prior posts? I see that I can’t edit posts I made a while back. Just wondering.

I would like this also. The Tulsa thread was IMO the best “conversation” the Dope has had in a while.

I have Sam’s Simple as well. Square avatars in Google Chrome/Win7, and round avatars on Safari/iPhone 6.

You can also do this: Click Reply at the bottom of a post, without highlighting any text first. Then, in the compose box, note the left-most icon in the tool-bar, that looks like a little speech-bubble. Click on that, and it imports the entire post you’re quoting for you.

I was fiddling with edits another post earlier. It looks there’s still a 5 minute window.

Okay, so I think that indicates that TPTB did configure an edit time-out. In the demo site, there is no such time-out and you can edit your own posts forever as far as I know.

I’m using Firefox on a Mac. Had round avatars at first, now the circles are squared with Sam’s. That’s the problem with web design. Write once, debug everywhere.

I wonder why Discourse decouples replying to a post apart from embedding the quote? Never seen any other board software do that.

No, sorry, no “dislike”. It will be used politically.

round avatars? being automatically logged out?

Referring to the post immediately above:

I think he’s referring to my remark that discobot told me I’ve posted more than 21% of the posts in this thread and suggested that I back off and let some other people get some posts in.

ETA: Oh, another thing: If you quote the immediately previous post in its entirety, the quote gets automatically deleted (as happened in this post).

Oh, I am seeing banner ads now? Paid up through next February. Has something changed?

Well … yeah.

I hope whether we have popularity contests for threads and posts is not decided by a popularity contest. Yes, other boards have all that stuff. This is a reason I come here instead of there.

That’s interesting. Seems like Discourse fixes a lot of problems we never knew we had.

Yeah, that’s annoying. I expect I will exclusively select text, and never use the “reply” button, since it seems disfunctional.

There is a way to reply and get an embedded quote kind of like the old way. Press “Reply”, then once the posting window opens, click on the little speech-bubble icon at upper left.

Oh, that makes me sad. I was excited to hear that instead of an edit window, you could see previous versions of a post on Discourse. That seems strictly better than an edit window. It addresses all the problems with people lying about what they posted, or the thread getting confusing after a post changed, and still allows posters to fi typos, or add a clarification after replies indicate it’s needed.
