Problem I have with Eposode II AOTC (no spoilers I think)

I don’t know why in heck I wrote Williams, I meant Kevin Smith. :smack:

I just saw that yesterday. I was amazed to see how much was cut! Gee, Jar Jar, came up with that idea to go against Amidala’s wishes on your own, huh? My husband felt pretty ripped off, actually. The movie felt like it was edited for television in parts–especially at the beginning.

Yeah, if you want to see Ep II without Amidala and Anakin rolling around in the grass, see the IMAX version. (Did I miss Anakin asking Amidala, “Do you ever get that…not-so-fresh feeling”?)

Ugh! I got a hamster burp when I submitted my post, so I opened up the Cafe Society page in another window, saw that the last reply was from cainxinth, assumed that the hamsters ate my post, hit the submit button again, and I see a double post. Very strange. Do the hamsters have stomach flu?

You’ve GOT to be kidding me. I agree that Lucas has totally botched this prequel, but you think these two clowns would do better? Kevin “Look at me! Am I offending you yet? Isn’t this funny? Go on, tell me I’m being funny! Please! For god’s sake someone LOOK AT ME!” Smith? Steven “This isn’t my ‘serious’ film so if anything’s wrong it can just be fixed with more dinosaurs.” Spielberg?

I agree with you on Kevin “couldn’t frame a camera shot to save his life” Smith but, on the other hand, I’d love to see a Steven “director of some of the best SF movies, ever” Spielberg directed Star Wars. It would, by default, be the best of the 6 movies.

Doesn’t cauterization tend to reduce the probability of a successful reattachment?

I know this is offtopic but why warn people about spoilers for a movie that’s already gone to video/DVD? Folks who haven’t seen this movie yet either don’t care about it and the midichlorians or aren’t going to see it. Isn’t there a time where one just doesn’t have to warn a minority about spoilers?
Kaiser Soze was the gimp in The Usual Suspects.
Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker’s father.
It rained frogs at the end of Magnolia.
It’s the grumpy old man who was the spooky ghost in every Scooby Doo cartoon.
Tyler Durden is the Narrator’s imaginary friend.
Norman Bates dressed up as his mother to kill women.
Soylent green is people.
The astronauts who crashed on the Planet of the Apes were on Earth all along.
Ray Milland proves he was involved in trying to kill his wife by letting himself into her apartment with the key he left for the killer.

And if cauterization tends to reduce the probability of a successful reattachment but this happened in the Star Wars movies then there oughtn’t be any lightsabers, faster than light travel or a quasi-mystical force which affects physical reality. Either suspend disbelief or stop nitpicking already. It’s a children’s movie for heaven’s sake.

The med droid could also just slice off another half inch or so and get a nice fresh wound again.

Didn’t Charles Schulz get flak for having Lucy announce that “Rosebud was his sled” in a Peanuts strip in (I believe) the 1970’s? If people are still in an uproar after a few decades, then I could see how someone might want to take precautions about spoiling a movie that’s only six months old and only just came out on DVD/video (many people wait for the video before they see the movie, after all.)

Darth Vader is Luke’s father?!?!?

Zoinks! That changes everything!

Next, you’ll be telling me that Jaye Davies is a man…

This whole spoiler issue has been discussed before, but since I don’t think this thread really cares where it’s going, I’ll add another response to raisinbread: Not everyone is as old as you! Some of us still have a lot of movies which came out 5 or 10 or 30 years ago to see which we haven’t gotten to yet. And a lot of times, people just don’t get a chance to see a movie when it first comes out. What if they just had their first child, or have been in the hospital. I know in the case of Citizen Kane, I never went out of my way to see it until recently, because I wasn’t old enough to get it. But it had been spoiled 10 years ago for me. (Fortunately, in this case, it’s not as big a spoiler as people make it out to be.)

Given the width of the of the “blade” and that “half inch”, you’re looking at a substantial missing segement. Do you want your arm shortened by that much? It also might severely reduce his combat efficiancy. As a Jedi, he may not be able to take that chance. If I had the choice between a half-crippled limb and a fully fuctional inorganic prosthetic, I might be inclined to the latter. Plus they may not have gotten Anaking to servicable medical facility equipped for limb reattachments in time.

I’ve seen this argument before. The problem I have with it is that it relies on unknowns that people assume about SW technology. Its like saying that, since primitive tribes had Trepanation for a very long time, our modern day societies should be able to reverse an accidental lobotomy in the middle of a battle.

Sihg, I hate going off on these tangents.

But it has nothing to do with the OP. Every time there is a anything remotely related to a SW thread, people pop up and dumo on George Lucas. I don’t like it in any thread, and since I was one of the millions who liked AoTC…

Then don’t go into threads that announce that negatives things regarding your favorite movie are going to be discussed! If you’re so opposed to the idea of criticism and bitching, start a “What I Love About SWII:AOTC - no bitching” thread.

I thought I’d jump on the hijack express and give a quick impression of the IMAX version of AoTC. It was my thought too, Tretiak , that the movie was improved with the cuts that were made. Some of the cuts were only snipets of dialogue and weren’t missed. I am still enough of a fan of the series that I got a chill seeing the opening title and hearing the theme music on a five story screen.

After engrossing myself with pre-release spoiler info prior to AoTC coming out, I have vowed to myself that I will not read anything about the next and final enstallment. Say what you will, but I will miss being able to look forward to a new Star Wars flick coming to the local theater.

You’re hearing the voice of two very large groups.

Group A doesn’t like Star Wars. That’s fine, but many folks in Group A are apparently having a contest to see who dislikes it the most, with other prizes being given for who disliked it first, who never liked it, and so forth. These are the people who, even when there is a positive SW thread, feel they have to wander in and tell everyone participating that “it’s just a movie” and so forth so they can earn valuable points in the contest. Some others in Group A don’t like it for perfectly valid reasons and have no problem discussing them in not-so-positive threads such as “Problem I have with Episode II AOTC”.

Group B likes Star Wars but is very disappointed with how the prequel trilogy is going. Unfortunately I count myself in that group. I consider myself a SW fan, though many others probably don’t - for example, I don’t read the comics or the books and hated the books I did read, especially the Zahn novels. For me, it’s because I like SW and don’t like seeing it diminished with amateur hackwork as I consider the Zahn novels and as I consider the prequel so far. But that’s another story. Point is, A lot of genuine fans feel legitimately let down by these movies. Many fans have thought for fifteen years how they would do prequel stories and feel disappointed that the ‘reality’ isn’t quite what they imagined.

There’s also the third thing to consider that whereas X-Files fans adored Chris Carter (until he told them all to go get bent) and Buffy fans worship Joss Whedon, many star Wars fans dislike Lucas. We admit that this talents are more for creating a universe than for, say, directing, casting, or writing. And we wince and try to make it through his decisions that seem to satisfy only three people in the world - his kids. Many fans like SW despite Lucas, rather than because of him. I don’t know of any other fanbase that regards the creator of the property in this way.

You didn’t like the Heir to the Empire trillogy? That was really the only continuation of the Star Wars universe I did like. Grand Admiral Thrawn and Mara Jade rule.

Nope. It didn’t feel like Star Wars at all to me. I never once felt that Zahn had any kind of feel for or even knowledge of the Star Wars universe.

I have no problem with OP of this thread, which makes a point, albeit mundane. And I have no problem with someone confused by the political manuvering of the movie.

I find it incerdibly arrogant AND ASSININE OF PEOPLE TO COME INTO THE THREAD AND START BITCHJING ABOUT GEORGE LUCAS.
