Problem with dash lights dimming

I researched this online and am stuck. It is not an alternator problem as neither my headlights or radio dim. 2005 Jeep Liberty if it matters.

My dash lights will dim randomly just driving. They also dim (but not 100%) when using the turn signal. I believe that if the dash lights are dim then my dome lights do not turn on when I open my door. Turning the light dimmer fixes the problem temporarily. Some people online refer to a short or bad ground but how would I test/fix it. Can I just replace the light stalk or is there more involved?

Daimler-era Chrysler product? I’d bet $10 and a box of donut holes it’s the multi-function switch.
