Problem with Facebook-lost account

Apologies for posting this here, as I probably have a better chance of getting a correct answer from the Dopers than from Facebook forums.

My stepgranddaughter is travelling abroad now and cannot communicate with her FB account or with anyone at all, for that matter. Friends and family were leaving the occasional note on her Facebook wall, but as of a few days ago, her account simply vanished. Any ideas on what might have happened? Any suggestions as to how fix things?

Thanks.

Did she tell you this on the phone? Anytime I hear of “difficulties” involving a relative or friend traveling overseas, I assume it’s a scam unless I hear from them on the phone. Unfortunately I’ve had two gullible friends send money to help someone they knew who “lost” their email and cell phone.

That said, I have lost my FB password and found it incredibly easy to reset as long as I had access to the email address I registered with. In fact, the last time I reset it, I went through FB’s hoops rather than look for the password which I had written down as it was easier and faster to go their way.

Not that this is really any help… but I’ve always heard the opposite: that it’s almost impossible to ever really get off Facebook, no matter what you do and no matter how hard you try. Well, maybe that DOES help. It would seem to indicate that the account can’t possibly have really disappeared!

No, we didn’t hear from her, we just saw that her page had vanished and she’d vanished from our friends list. She is participating in a sort of race around the world for young cinematophers, visiting 10 countries and making short documentaries that are aired on tv. One of the conditions imposed on them is that they have no communication whatsoever with anyone outside the strict confines of the race. We are not likely to hear from her for quite a few more weeks. We’ve seen her movies from French Polynesia, Japan, Cambodia, Sri Lanka; tomorrow movies shot in Tuscany will air. We see the contestants during every show, so we know she’s ok (fingers crossed).

Anise. my experience has been the same as yours. Thanks for the encouraging words.

Thanks for your responses.

Well then. Any chance therefore that contestants could have been instructed to suspend their FB accounts for the duration of the competition? That seems most likely.

Suspension means it disappears, but will reappear when it’s taken out of hibernation.

jjimm, she’s been abroad since September 3, and hasn’t posted to her FB account at all. Her page was available as recently as a few days ago.

I guess she’ll reactivate it when she comes home.

If the mod wants to close this thread, it’s fine with me. Thanks again.
