Problems Burning CD's

I downloaded several MP3 files from WinMX and they play perfectly on my PC. Each filename is whatever the original host named it but it’s usually the artist and song name.

So I used Roxio Easy CD Creator (Basic edition that came with the PC) and in the application, the burning went off without a hitch. When I finalize the CD, I return to look at the files and they are named Track01, Track02, etc. The file names were completely altered.

I then tried the same thing with Windows Media Player and the same thing happened. I even tried to burn the files, not finalize the CD and then change the name through Windows Explorer but the Explorer can’t read the CD unless it’s finalized. Once it’s finalized, the tracks are read only and can’t be changed.

How do I go about putting in the track names in the files on the CD? By the way, this hasn’t happened with any of the music CD’s I have burned.

Thanks
Ivan

You can’t do that with audio CDs, the files will ALWAYS be named Tracknn.cda. The way you get actual track names to show up is either via burning CD-Text information, which is not supported by all burners and burning software, or for the system to automatically fetch the track information the first time the disc is inserted, and store this for later display. The second method is standard. If you want to try the first route, I’d suggest you download Nero from ahead.de. It’s the most powerfull and reliable CD burning application, and includes the Nero Infotool that can tell you everything that your burner is capable of.

Nero…I have Adaptec CD Creator (it has burned games, playstation games, songs, and more!)

I’ve used Nero as well, but thats just how the default is. Thats how it works, if you burn the cd as an audio format CD the files will always be renamed to Track**. Unless you burn the CD as Mp3 format the file names can’t be preserved.

I also have the same burner software (Roxio Easy CD Creator, basic version), but I have a different problem.

I’ve burned several music CD’s (with MP3’s that I downloaded) and it was fine, at first. However, now when I try to make another music CD, there is an error message that says that there isn’t enough space on the CD. But the CD is brand new and completely empty. Furthermore, I still get the error message when I reduce the amount of music to a level well below the limit (the limit is 80 mins. and I have it at 64 mins.; the other limit is 700 megabytes and I have it at 620 MB).

Does anyone know what’s going on?

sleeping: I’ll suggest that you try Nero. If Nero fails also, that will indicate that either your drive or the disc is defective.

Don’t forget to consider the obvious. Before you invest a couple of hunderd on a new drive, spend $10 on a cleaning disk and make sure the problem doesn’t come from something as simple as dirty lenses or crud.

Also, make sure you have the latest version from Roxio (do Help, About - you should have at least 5.3.2.34). The original version that came with my PC, only a few months ago, was a little buggy about deciding that CDs were “defective” (when, for example, the disk drive hadn’t even spun up yet, so how could it know?). It’s a free download from Roxio.

The simple solution? Dump Easy CD Creator and use a better tool, like Nero: www.ahead.de
