Problems with Jamaica and reggae music are "off topic" in a thread complaining about Bob Marley

Thanks! Not a typo, I’ve been using the wrong word all this time. No wonder my personal manifesto is getting little attention.

I think what he said was not right, but to be fair, Jamaica is one of if not the most;

  1. Unsafe
  2. Intolerant
  3. Economically unproductive
  4. Crime-ridden

countries in the Western Hemisphere. Those are facts. But he shouldn’t have said what he said.

I understand that, but it’s not the issue here.

I do, and no.

Regards,
Shodan

Been there thrice and had an amazing time each and every trip. Just sayin.

I am outraged at Bob Marley’s use of drone strikes without explicit congressional approval.

We have the main thread, but a link to the thread (or just one of them if there are many) about Obama would be helpful and relevant. Marley’s claim is that his previous posts made this one elevate to a Warning instead of a mod note, and the OP himself agrees that these posts are relevant.

I mean, based on what I’ve seen of the OP’s previous posts, I am inclined to believe Marley, but I’m still curious if anyone would offer a link or two.

A couple of older examples:

What Condescending Robot is really upset about is this thread. He exhibits the same kind of behavior described above (and was not modded for it) and followed it up by insulting me in this post (which I ignored and reported) and then doing it again in this post. After the second time, I warned him myself. I realize it’s preferable to leave that kind of thing to another mod, but I don’t think there’s any legitimate complaint about bias when you break the rules in such a straightforward way:

[My underline]

Isn’t there an ethical conflict when Marley23 takes any action regarding a Bob Marley question? Should he not recuse himself?

You mean it’s not from the Jennifer Aniston movie? My illusions have been thoroughly shattered!

I was thinking maybe it was one of those “slippery slope” things, only even more precarious, because of the scree. It didn’t make a lot of sense, but then a lot of posts don’t (to me).

Seconded. I often have something to say about the original topic, but by the time we get to the third page (and I always feel obligated to read an entire thread before I add to it), it’s devolved into an argument about something entirely different, and it’s futile to try to address the posts on the first page. I know I’m pretty slow, and it’s likely that what I have to say won’t add a whole lot to the thread, but it’s frustrating to see a thread about, say, music turned into a thread about, say, international politics when you would have liked to talk about the music. No doubt some of the people who agree that the modding is heavy-handed will dismiss my opinion because of my politics, but it’s what I think.

I was wondering when someone was going to ask that.

A specter is haunting Marley: the specter of the Q-word. It must be
that by recusing himself he would have been one warning/ban short of Q.

Why yes, yes he does:

Even though I count myself among the legion of pro-drone sociopaths, I retain
enough objectivity to be able to enjoy a little bit of well-rendered vitriol such
as CR’s composition above.

Q-word. Q-word. Hmmm. Qunt?

(:frowning: Not that he is one, of course. Thinking of banned words.)

See post #6.

:smack:

But this brings up an interesting question. Is the fictional word “qunt” banned?

Gee, Sam, I dunno… do you suppose it’d be okay to call somebody a trole? :dubious:

Good point.

Also consider such beauties as ashol, fuk and schitt.

Q-U-O-T-A quota, however, should not really be considered bannable,
I wouldn’t think.
