And disagreeing with Marley23 is “threadshitting.”
Just a notice for anyone not in one of the approved opinion camps here, which are “Barack Obama is infallible” or “I’m a Southern dope who thinks that Barack Obama is a Kenyan Muslim and loves saying coded racist things so you can use me as a punching bag.” Anyone offering a human rights-based critique of the President, not buying into the notion of “liberal Christians” being the real ones and religion in America being an awesomely positive force, or otherwise falling outside the approved political discourse of Obama acolytes bashing the inbred is not welcome and will be nickel-and-dimed for posting things that would otherwise go unnoticed until they stop causing cognitive dissonance.
Marley23 is pissed that I won’t fall into one of the approved modes of discussion about Obama, so he’s following me into irrelevant threads to find nonsensical shit to warn me about.
I recently got dinged for referring to another member as “disingenuous”. I mean Jeeez.
It’s becoming clear to me that the SDMods must be operating under a quota system-
you know, like the Highway Patrol, whereby each one of them must make a certain
number of warnings and bannings within a certain time period of they lose their SDMod badge.
There’s room in that thread for a discussion of homophobia in reggae music, but saying Jamaica is horrible and the shithole of the English-speaking world is off topic. Your view of Christians and Rastafarians isn’t all that relevant either. You do have a habit of wandering into threads and expressing a barely-relevant opinion in the most vitriolic manner possible, and you need to stop doing that. I believe you’ve been mod-noted for it a few times and since that didn’t work, I am hoping you’ll pay attention to the warning. This has nothing to do with Obama or anything else. This kind of behavior is annoying regardless of the political views or artistic tastes of the person doing it. And I didn’t post in that thread, so you weren’t warned for disagreeing with me.
I doubt Colibri’s warning is relevant to this discussion, but here it is.
No, we don’t. Normally I would ignore a comment this ridiculous, but this is the second time someone has asked about it recently and I’d like to make sure nobody reasonable could think it even might be true.
Marley, you let a lot of sniping go on in that thread before deciding to whip out the warning on a post that seems no more of topic than several before it.
Marley, Maybe a few more of these threads highlighting your heavy-handed moderation will lead to you rethinking the way you go about things. There are board rules to be enforced. But threads don’t have to comport to the discussions YOU would like to see taking place. Lighten up already, would.
Thinking about this again, threadshitting is probably the wrong word. We usually use that word to describe posts that mock the thread topic, which wasn’t what Condescending Robot did. ‘Being a jerk’ would have been more accurate.
FWIW, had I seen Condescending Robot’s post before Marley did, I would have given him a warning for being nasty and off-topic – i.e., being a jerk. To the best of my recollection, I have had no interactions with him or her elsewhere on the boards.
Ya know. If someone goes to the trouble to write, edit and post a thread on a topic, they have a right to expect that the discussion will center around their topic. Anything that distracts from that topic to the point that people are responding to the unrelated comments, like the ones here regarding Jamaica, are threadshitting. It’s pretty hard to get a thread back up to speed after something like that happens. It happens to a lesser degree all the time. You read the OP, and want to respond, so you head back to page 3 or 4 to do so, and by then, they are talking about Maggie’s drawers instead of the OP.
Yes, there is. And discussing homophobia in reggae music is also fair game. Calling Jamaica the shithole of the English speaking world is beyond the scope of the thread and is (to put it mildly) nasty.
