Probs With Windows XP Installation

My CD-ROM and CD burner have been rendered unusable when I installed XP. My Computer doesn’t even recognize the drives.

Any Ideas?

I was running W98SE on a 500 Mhz, Athlon K-6 with 384 megs of RAM.

Thanks

Option 1

Re-install the original operating system and try again

Option 2

Call Microserf

I had probs intalling XP and after a 2 hour call to Tech support, I ended up with a new OS. There goes the MS profit margin.

Is this the home version?

I had a similar problem after installing XP on our family computer. For a couple days after installation, everything was fine, and then PFFT! No more DVD or CD-RW.

After several weeks of trying everything we can think of, we finally sucked it up and just reinstalled. Fixed it right up.

Yep, putting the old OS back on does the trick, mostly because XP is no compatible with a lot of stuff. But if you try the cdrom manf site they might have an XP update.

In the future, you might consider making a dual boot, XP & your old OS. Xp should ask you if you want to do that & create the system for you.
