Professional Video Expert Advice Requested

Hiya, at work we use the Panasonic AG HVX200 camera. I am a TV reporter and have found the camera pretty user-friendly and fairly deep for our purposes. We use the P2 workflow and it’s all nice and easy.

I am considering buying my own rig for use in an upcoming documentary and a feature film. It’ll also be ideal for times when the studio won’t let me take a camera out of the country for reporting.

Is there a better solution for my purposes? I know the ins and outs of this machine and have seen it go through hell and back at the hands of my co-workers so I know it’s solid.

Any suggestions?

I’m a DP shooting a lot of HD lately. I really prefer the Varicam (Panasonic) over the CineAltas (Sony). Just more of a certain mojo to the image. Very subjective, I know, but there’s just a certain cinematic quality to the Panasonic cameras that I really like. Haven’t shot the Red yet but I like it’s image too.

Those are rental cameras but my personal camera is an HVX200A. I love it. And I did shoot a feature with it last summer. Never a hiccup, I’d recommend it highly. Well, you’ve put it through it’s paces so you know what it can take. There are other choices in that price range so do some research but you won’t be sorry with the 200.

Also check dvxuser.com for a great source of info on that and other cameras.
Good luck!
