Someone mentioned to me at some point that such a thing exists, that would allow you to see what AIM users have you on their Buddy List. And now I’m terribly curious, knowing there’s a possiblity of finding out who exactly has me listed and never talks to me. But I can’t seem to find anything Googling. So does anyone know if such a utility does exist, and if it does, where I can find it? Someone could be stalking me, dammit!
Disclaimer: Never tried it, but I believe it works by scanning your buddy list (which you submit) and finding matches on others’ lists.
For some reason that website doesn’t work for me. I log on and click on register and I send an instant message to buddyzoo but it says that user is unavailable. Sorry for the hijack I’m just wondering what I’m doing wrong.
Probably there is supposed to be some piece of software running that logs into the AIM network as ‘buddyzoo’, which isn’t currently running.
That looks interesting, but it says it only shows the screennames of people who have you on their list if you’ve got them on yours – I want to know the people who I DON’T know who might have my name on their lists. Hmm. Maybe I was lied to and this really doesn’t exist.
I’ll be somewhat surprised if it’s even possible to find out what buddy lists you are on with any program. AOL would have had to implement some kind of request over the network to get the contents of people’s lists, or return a list of lists you are on, and I cannot see why they would have done this.
But you never know, maybe they did, or there’s some tricky non-direct way to do it.
You’re on my list :), though I’m not online much nowadays.
I wouldn’t think it’s possible to find out something like that as most friend lists are stored locally, aren’t they?
No, I do think that they are stored on the net somewhere, as you can sign on on any computer and see your list.
