Prohibition is Over!! (80 years ago)

So what are you drinking (or planning to drink) to celebrate?

It’s still lunch hour here at work, but this evening we are heading out for Thai, which means a couple of bottles of Singha will accompany dinner. Later, I might just lift a glass of Trader Joe’s Kentucky bourbon (rebranded Buffalo Trace, really) in honor of the anniversary.
Prosit!

You think this is funny? The town where I live repealed prohibition in 2008.

The county in Arkansas where I just spent Thanksgiving is dry (shudder). Tonight I will make my manhattan:

2oz. Copper Fox Rye (it’s aged in charred barrels);
.5oz Luxardo maraschino liquer;
.5oz Dolin sweet vermouth
3 dashes Bitter Truth cocktail bitters;

Serve in a chilled coupe glass with two Luxardo maraschino cherries.

I will exercise my 21st Amendment rights at the curling club tonight.

I’ll be making myself a Scofflaw tonight:

• 1 1/2 oz. rye whiskey
• 1 oz. dry vermouth
• 3/4 oz. fresh lemon juice
• 3/4 oz. grenadine

Shake with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

And, I had no idea Trader Joe’s Bourbon was rebranded Buffalo Trace! I like Buffalo Trace, as a reasonably priced bourbon. I’ll have to give the TJ a try!
