Project Management: Looking for some good info

I’m looking for some good reference materials, preferably web based, on Project Management to answer some basic questions. Stuff like “Where did modern project management originate? Why?” (the answer seems to be it originated in the US in the 50’s in response to Soviet space expansion and the need for the US to more efficiently and effectively manage large projects), and why Project Management has emerged as a major profession in the last few decades…stuff like that. I’ve found a few things on Wikipedia, but any good links for these types of basic Project Management questions would be very helpful (yeah, I’m taking a Project Management class and trying to get ahead of the curve some by being prepared).

I knew it! Sounded like an assignment right off the bat!

You want some kudos from your prof. Drop some info on Six Sigma project management software and basic six sigma project philosophy. It’s a decently knew trend catching on quickly.

For other info google is your friend.

Thanks

I’ve just spent a couple of days doing research on Project Management Offices for work. That is different than the lines you seem to be looking at–you appear to need a historical view–but the way that this sort of research gets done is to hop from one reference to another until you find what you want.

Send an email to me at CookingWithGas at domain seigle.net (I don’t want to put a machine-readable email address in a public post) and I can send you a bunch of stuff.
