Project Runway 10/8

I can’t believe it! Epperson’s gone! It should so have been Logan. They were both hideous, but those pants, and that shirt?! And those pants!

I don’t get why Logan’s was Octkoberfest. Epperson’s, sort of, yeah, but I think Heidi was just using to mean butt ugly outfit.

I’m glad Irina didn’t win again. She’s so obnoxious when she wins. Nice to see Gordana getting some love, though I can’t believe she cried. I hate when they get all weepy for the camera. Gordana’s European! Also was it just me or did Heidi call her Jordana at one point?

wrt why Logan’s was “Oktoberfest”–see Wiki’s entry or think the St. Pauli Girl emblem.
Logan’s blouse would’ve suited the occasion, if the event was a beer blowout in Munich last week!

I loved everything about Gordana’s asymmetric cocktail-evening dress!
Gordana’s model looked straight off the runway, not like what she was, an average girl in a remade wedding dress.

Logan’s outfit was hideous and poorly fitted, but Chris’s was ridiculous I thought. It was a design he loved that was completely inappropriate to the wearer, and as a stand-alone design it was still shapeless and unattractive. Bleh.

Irina’s smugness and conceit is getting old. Her face did visibly fall a touch when she didn’t win. Awesome.

And yay for Gordana!

I was glad seeing something a little more original in their design challenge–new models, new idea, not…blue.

I love it when they use regular people as models! It makes the designers think and design completely different than when they are styling for a 5’11" 90 lb waif.

I liked Epperson, but how on earth could his model stand up there, smiling, and tell the judges she liked her dress? Same for Christopher. Both were totally unwearable and I would be very sad if I was either of those models and I had to take that mess home with me.

As for Logan, my biggest problem was that his garments looked unfinished, especially the pants. I wonder if the designers were allowed to go back after the runway and finish/modify their outfits? Same with Shirin, whose model wanted her dress to be much shorter.

I think if you had weird taste you could maybe like Epperson’s or Chris’s. Maybe. But Logan’s? Those pants…THOSE PANTS! HIDEOUS!

I love how for once there was less, “Yup, I aced it,” and more, “Yeah, I fucked up,” as the garments went down the runway. Nicholas’s was pretty bad–I was surprised he wasn’t in the bottom.

I think Shirin made the right choice with that dress length. I’m not sure her model could pull that off.

I thought it was an interesting and very difficult challenge, which makes it different from most of the challenges this season. “Make something blue”? Sheeesh.

I agree, Logan had more points against him than Epperson. The designers seem really less than stellar this year; of the eight or nine left, there are about five that could easily all go home next week, and no one would care. The two people who were “safe” in the middle shoulda been on the chopping block as well.

They’re talking about how tough the competition is, but I think they just screw it up more often than not.

And why would ANYONE listen to what their client wanted? The judges HATE “wearable.” It seemed silly that Tim had to spell out that the designers need to design in a way that shows their talent, and not let the clients do the designing. After how many seasons, some of them didn’t realize this??

Also agree Logan should’ve gotten the boot–has he demonstrated anything distinctive or unique this season?

Also, the Models show was tough because of the confusion that ended up getting Tara the boot. Gordana was beside herself with regret, and you can see how hard it was for Tara to see the knife twist and not be able to do anything about it.

I still like Kojii a lot, but Katie’s my favorite (though in some of the interviews, her hair is so frizzed out she looks like a different person).

How did they do the model show? Did they just kind of hang around while the show was going on?

Did anyone else notice how every time Shirin talked about the dress she was working with, there was less and less fabric in it? I fully expected that by the time they got back from Mood, she’d have nothing but a fat quarter* and a few twigs and leaves to work with (as she walked five miles in the snow, uphill both ways.) I was really, really glad Miss Negative Nelly didn’t win. Yeah, hers was hard, and she didn’t have as much fabric to work with as the others. But as they told Kenley in the music makeover challenge, everybody’s was hard. And she had a bodice she could just embellish and be done with because it was already totally modern and appropriate for any venue in cut and fit the model perfectly, so she had a HUGE time-saver right there. And all that whining about how you simply couldn’t dye that sort of material, especially when it was cut with footage of other designers doing just that…she was working my nerves really badly.

Add me to the ones who are really surprised they sent home Epperson instead of Logan, especially as Logan wasn’t wearing his Magical Shiny Pants of Distraction. He’s been in the bottom rather a lot now, and always for the same problems–garments that are unflatteringly cut and poorly constructed/finished. Epperson, otoh, has only been in the bottom once, when he was working with Qristal and her abominable wrinkly sausage swimsuit, and he’s been in the top more than once. Sending him home ahead of Logan was blatant producer manipulation without even the fig leaf of talking about how Logan’s work is “interesting” or how he “has a point of view.”
*A half yard of fabric that’s been cut in half width-wise, so you have the same overall area as a quarter yard but it’s a nearly-square block instead of a long, skinny strip.

Actually, they paired up each model with a divorcee, and they acted as mentors on how to walk the runway. It was cute, especially the really short divorcee (5’ tall) who was a foot shorter than all the regular models.

Then, after the runway show, they all went out for drinks together (w/the divorcees still wearing their outfits).

Yeah, I noticed her situation got more and more dire with each retelling. I mean it obviously sucked for her, but it was a bit funny the way she went on and on.

And yeah, Epperson did only do a bad job that one time. And his good times (like that great movie costume dress) were really awesome. I can’t remember anything Logan did that was stunning. I thought for sure big E would be in the top three or four to be honest.

Yeah, that was total bullshit. Epperson’s dress was bad, don’t get me wrong, but Logan’s whole look was just criminal. There was nothing right about it. Even if they had been equally bad, Epperson’s past performance should have broken the tie.

They’re obviously keeping Logan around in the hopes that his furtive glances with Carol Hannah will go somewhere. Is this what happens when you move the show to Lifetime*?

That aside, it was probably the most interesting show of the season, for whatever that’s worth.

I really didn’t think Christopher’s baked potato look was that bad. It needed some work, but it’s the sort of thing they might have praised in other seasons for “taking a chance”.

  • Watching the commercials during PR, it strikes me that the other shows on Lifetime look even worse than I could have imagined.

Epperson’s designs have been in the bottom twice–just last week his work in the Boring Blue challenge with Chris put them in the bottom. For whatever reason, they forgave Epperson and just went after Chris (who was, admittedly, the team leader), so I suppose technically Epperson wasn’t in the bottom–but his work was.

Oh yeah. I guess had blocked that whole episode out, in the spirit of self-preservation. But up to this point, it was only his team efforts that had been in the bottom, while they generally like his solo stuff. Logan had been stinking the place up all by himself.

Logan got lucky! How in the world did he pick a dress with a 8ft train and end up with a just waistcoat from it? It was supposed to be Tuxedo-ish!

I thought Gordana’s dress was cute but it reminded me of Althea’s paper challenge dress.

Anyone else seeing repeating trends in the designs? Logan went with a suit look that ALthea has made popular and it tanked on him.

My pick for the top three - Althea, Irina and Carol Hannah -

No Shirin? I think Shirin could make it to top three. I would have said Epperson, Shirin, and maybe Althea or Carol Hannah. None of the other guys are really wowing me.

Shirin was a little wigged out last night, but on the whole, she tends to be pretty tolerable. Irina, on the other hand…

I didn’t like the sleeves on Irina’s dress at all. They were awfully winglike.

Gordana’s dress was beautiful and flattering. I also loved the back story about tearing up her old life to make a new one.

My prediction for the final three (subject to change): Shirin, Irina, and Carol Hannah.

I thought Irina’s dress looked very “Mother of the Bride.”

What a stupid decision. Logan has shown nothing of all interest all season. Epperson has consistently done well.

Bleh.

I thought the same. I mean, it was a very *pretty *“Mother of the Bride” dress, but still… do you really picture that thing being worn in any other setting? I can’t imagine anyone at a run-of-the-mill cocktail party in that thing. Well, I can, but she’d be mocked for wearing a MoB dress.

I was also surprised to see Epperson go home. Has Logan done anything of note?

I’m really not enjoying this season. Lame challenges, lame judges, boring contestants, boring clothes, and if Lifetime isn’t influencing elimination choices any *more *than Bravo did, I sure feel like they’re influencing them differently.
