I have a website project that I’ve just started. It’s generated a little interest, but I want to be able to promote it a little more. I don’t want to spam e-mails, message boards or newsgroups. What are the best ways of getting the word out?

Wihtout buying space the best way to drive traffic is linkswaps from sites with a similar focus. No doubt about that at all.
Alternately buy yourself on of those cheapie links on Fark. God knows they’ve got the traffic.
